According to Morey’s evaluations, Martin has been one of the NBA’s most efficient scorers in the last 30 years. He’s the only player who has shot 40 percent from the beyond 3-point line and averaged eight made free-throws a game in the course of an entire season. And he has done it in two of his six NBA seasons.
On a side note, the Rockets very nearly traded for Amar’e Stoudemire in the final frantic minutes before the deadline.
They’d removed Stoudemire from their list because he wouldn’t commit beyond the end of this season. Also, there are parts of his game that didn’t fit with what the Rockets want to do, and renting him for a few months would contradict every move Morey has made since learning Yao Ming wouldn’t play this season.
Morey believed the Rockets couldn’t be competitive and exciting this season, but he wanted to position them to be a serious playoff team when Yao returned for 2010-11. Yet as the clock ticked down, the Suns began to lower the price. And lower it some more. And some more.

On a side note, what Richard Justice is saying about Martin is true (the 40%/40%/8FTA minimum), but Jordan also did it in the '96 season when the 3PT line was shortened, but here's an entertaining thought.
Martin is the only player in the history of the NBA to average at least 40% FG/ 40% 3PT on a minimum of 9FTA, he's done that twice, as he's averaged 9.5FTA one season, and 10.3FTA another season. That's just mind blowing when considering how offensively effective he is (especially his TS%, which he's broken over 60% many times).
