Culpepper to Lions??

Post#1 » by mastertang » Tue Oct 28, 2008 8:58 pm

From Adam Schefter's blog on NFL.com ... ( http://blogs.nfl.com/category/adam-schefter/ )
Our friend Daunte Culpepper just weighed in with the latest info on his status.

“I had a great workout and meetings with the Lions today,” Culpepper wrote.

Thoughts?

I'm torn. I like Daunte and if he can still play at a high level and wants to play for the Lions.... I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. He's obviously better, even at this stage, than anything the Lions have. OTOH, I want high draft picks. I wouldn't want Culpepper to come in and start winning games, LMAO. This season is over for the Lions. Might as well cash in come draft day. But if Culpepper is an option at QB and we can use all those draft picks on the lines and special team... I'd give it a serious thought.

I dunno, I think I would do it regardless and just hope for the best.

Culpepper wouldn't refer, without saying, to the Lions a "better situation" if he had anything left worth mentioning. The Chiefs and the Lions are the only teams talking to him.
I will admit this, I watch the waiver wire to see if ANYONE worth bringing in becomes available.

I would rather see this team use Stanton, Orlovsky, Henson, Alex Smith (49ers), or any "on the outs" QB out there and draft for needs (offensive line, secondary, defensive line) then draft a QB and/or sign Culpepper

Its official, he is signed.
Said to be the starter.
We arent going to play Stanton, though we spent a high second rounder on him.

Culpepper isn't the Lions' QB of the future, and their team is in no need of having a decent QB right now. I support Culpepper getting back in the NFL if he still has game, it's just the wrong timing for the Lions. They should be putting the ball in Stanton's hands and see if he has any potential - if not, they should be looking elsewhere for young QBs.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Well it doesn't appear like the Lions have any interest in Stanton. And it has looked that way for awhile now.

Considering Orlovsky has been our only option at QB for a few weeks now, Culpepper is an upgrade. I also think the Lions will look for a young QB, maybe even draft one in the first round, but Culpepper wanted to be here and depending on the contract... it could have been to nice an offer to pass up for a servicable QB with no expectations beyond just playing crap minutes.

I hope signing Daunte now won't interfer with the Lions draft position. But it is a two year contract, so the Lions can get a young QB and either have that QB play under Daunte, or Culpepper could be a solid backup QB next year.

I'm in a tough spot in my fantasy league.

I have Campbell out on bye and Orton down with an ankle sprain.

Literally my only playable options this week are to pick up either Culpepper, Thigpen or Seneca Wallace (hey hee!).

Think Daunte will at least get the green flag to toss the rock a lot?

I figure he at least can get the ball to Calvin Johnson for 2 scores vs. Jacksonville.

I don't know.

Any help?????

I'm guessing you had to do it by now. I would have taken Culpepper, based on those 3. The Lions will try to run, but eventually give up on it and throw.

I originally wanted to go Culpepper.

I flipped a coin between him and Thigpen.

Thigpen won the 1st toss, Culpepper won 2 out of 3.

I talked myself into Thigpen.

It's locked in now, hopefully I won't regret my last minute decision change.

Good luck to Detroit on beating the reeling Faguars.

I forgot how the Lions are. You made the right call.

In reality, if its between a Lion and anyone else...take anyone else.
