What do we have?

Post#1 » by Liqourish » Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:20 pm

After watching 10 games and getting a good feel for the players (even though the season isn't over), what do we have? what do we need?

These are the players I want to see stick around next year...

Offense:
QB: Matthew Stafford/Drew Stanton
WR: Calvin Johnson
TE: Brandon Pettigrew/Will Heller
OT: Gosder Cherilus
OG: Stephen Peterman
C: Dominic Raiola
FB: Jerome Felton
RB: Kevin Smith/Aaron Brown

Defense:
DE: Jason Hunter/Cliff Avril
DT:
LB: DeAndre Levy/Larry Foote/Julian Peterson/Zach Follett
CB:
S: Louis Delmas/Marquand Manuel

So What do we need?

DTs, CBs, WR, OT are top priorities IMO

Ernie Sims is nice, god knows I've loved him Detroit, but I'm not sure this defense suits him. If we could move him to fill another need, I think Mayhew has to pull the trigger.

Jason Hunter and Maruqnd Manuel haven't played well down the stretch and injuries have come into play, but they both started so well, that I think you keep them around to see if they really are good before you give up on decent talent.

Bryant Johnson has been mediocre at best. He's fine as a 3rd or 4th WR but Calvin needs help.

What do you think?? Who do you like?

I'm warming up to Eric Berry, Bar, but I still think Suh or Okung would be good picks too. Really can't go wrong with any of the three.

Eric Berry- Outstanding S and can play some CB. Him and Delmas would make a formiddable pairing. Has good speed, good instincts.

Russell Okung- Outstanding OT. Could start at LT right away. Played college ball with Pettigrew. Would help protect our investment in Stafford and would hopefully keep him upright and on the field.

Ndamukong Suh- Best player available. Would be a top 5 DT as soon as he enters the NFL. Is the type of player you can build a defense around. Very versatile.

Draft any of the three, and draft defense the rest of the draft. At least two DTs and two CBs.

Any of the three above are cool, yeah, but McCoy is legit as well, and possibly the most realistic option. Suh is going to go 1 or 2 i bet, and Berry wont be long after that. Im not sure we will go offense early, so McCoy really strikes me as our guy to be honest

Right now we're looking at the 4th pick. We move up to third if the Rams win one more game, since we lost to them.

That only leaves Tampa and Cleveland before us. Someone is going to fall. And if Cleveland takes a QB and shops Quinn like it's being predicted, two of the three fall.

McCoy is good and is a good option, but IMO, these three are the best options for us. Suh is BPA and fills a need. Berry is BPA #2 and would fill a need.

Okung isn't as great an option, but fills a glaring hole and is the best option for that position. Especially considering that it's not just another offense piece. It's protection for our offense. It's keeping Stafford from getting sacked and hit some more. It's maybe helping Stafford from getting another injury and missing some more games. It's doing the job Jeff Backus isn't doing.

McCoy is definitely #4 on my list, but my top 3 are can't miss options.

To be truthful, I'm just glad Mayhew is drafting instead of Millen. We won't be hearing Dez Bryants name when the Lions up are in April.
