Ticket Prices

Post#1 » by MicrowaveReborn » Thu Dec 24, 2009 9:40 pm

Currently, I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I lived exactly 2 miles from the University of Phoenix Stadium (Home of the Arizona Cardinals). I am a loyal Detroit Lions fan, but have since adopted my "other" team of the Cardinals. I checked into tickets for this Sundays game versus the St. Louis Rams. For a family of four, my cost...$350.00, just for the tickets. Not including parking or concessions, or the cheesy ass jersey my son will want ($120.00) or the hat ($32.00). I consider myself, middle class. How on God's green Earth can a "normal" person afford NFL tickets? Not to mention the Lions having a 1/2 full stadium. Talk about the "Fleecing of America"...

We are not a normal team. That's why the games are often blacked out. We have transmogrified into a state of chaotic underachievement.

It is certainly a problem. and one that doesnt seem to be ever addressed. I believe i heard football once called "a blue collar sport with white collar prices" and it couldnt be more accurate. ESPECIALLY here in Michigan and Detroit. How can working class families go to see these games, even once per year?? Truthfully, they can't.

It would be slightly different if we were a A+ organization. A team that constantly made the playoffs and competed for world titles. THAT is the kinda team you wanna take the kids to for a treat. But when you are stuck in absolute horribleness....why go? Why not stay home and watch on the HDTV with no bathroom lines and $10 beers? Not to mention the absurd price you paid, just to watch Daunte Culpepper throw another underthrown interception. I honestly dont know how Ford Field even sells out half the stadium

Its something that will have to change though. If the fans continue to stay away, ticket prices will have to go down one would think....i mean how can they stay high? Its still a buisness and if your product doesn't sell, you gotta drop that price. Which i hope happens next year. Or the Fords will continue to lose money.

Its a problem all right...

Another thing that troubles me are the half-full stadiums. As management, if you know your stadium will be 1/2 full...why not offer $5.00 seats? Isn't a $5.00 seat better than an empty seat? Then you add in the concessions...just doesn't seem to make much sense.
