One of the things I really liked about Speivey was how he understands football geometry. He always forces the runner inside to the help and he doesn't overrun in pursuit to give up the big cutback. He knows how to steer the receiver to his help but also to the sideline, understanding how to make throwing windows smaller. Ronde Barber used to do that kind of stuff--he wasn't great in man coverage but he took away the easy and made both the QB and WR beat him with great throws and catches.

Just caught the list of UDFA signings:
Ryan Stamper, LB, Florida
Aaron Berry, CB, Pitt
Mike Moore, WR, Georgia
Rob Calloway, DT, Saginaw
Matt Clapp, FB, Oklahoma
Sam Scroggins, LS, W. Virginia St.
Richard Dickson, TE, LSU
Mike Hicks, OL, UConn (Tryout)
Chima Ihekowaba, DE, Wilfrid Laurier (Tryout)
Aaron Higdon, RB, Charleston

Calloway is interesting, none of the other guys should make it past the first preseason game. Actually Dickson has a shot as a H-back if he can stand out on special teams. I've never seen the last two guys before--that' really beating the bushes.

So is Stamper the secret sleeper LB we were hoping for? Didn't Mayhew say that nobody knew who this guy was and that we were taking him for sure? Well Stamper is the only new LB we have, but he played on the most famous team in the country and was a heavily involved player. Seems like he fits an opposite description to me, and I saw another article that said Willie Young is going to be used as a DE.

I think the LB the Lions wanted got taken before they got to pick. From the sounds of it, it was a 3rd or 4th round LB that they wanted. I doubt they'll discuss it now that that linebacker is now with another team.

I think Stamper has a shot at competing for a LB spot, or at the very least, a special teams spot.

Mike Moore shouldn't be overlooked. He was a main target for Stafford at Georgia, has familiarity with Matty, and could compete with Northcutt, B. Johnson and Williams for a spot.

I don't think Berry has a shot. I really think the Lions will go after a vet CB to bring in for all our young guys.

Scroggins.... I love that name LOL Scroggins. Don Mulbach is okay... could they look to replace him? He's still kinda young... don't see why they would replace him unless theres an injury we don't know about. Don't see why we'd bring in a LS though.

^ Northcutt and Bryant Johnson are still on the team? Really? I completely forgot about them, probably because they both suck

So we have CJ, Burleson, B Johnson, Northcutt, Williams and Toone...right?

I hope Derrick Williams gets a chance to be the #3 or 4 receiver next year to see if he can do it

Yeah, they are all still on the team. Schwartz talked about "not giving up on Derrick Williams just yet" but you have to think that he was as disappointed with our receivers (outside of Megatron) as we were. I really wouldn't be shocked to see Moore out perform everyone but CJ and Nate.

Bryant Johnson is a great #3 WR. He's tall and really fast. I'm glad he stayed with us. Him and Derrick can fight for that #3 spot but regardless, I like both of them as that receiver.

Northcutt is trash. Drop him.

Yeah, according to my cousin, he's been a season ticket holder for 6 years now, they had #90 Suh jerseys available as soon as Suh was drafted.

Apparently Ryan Stamper never passed his physical so he never worked out with the team.

Chima Ihekowaba was signed by the Lions to a 1 year deal. The only player so far, that has been reportedly signed.
