acquiring Lawrence Jackson from Seattle

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:35 am

A first-round pick in 2008, Jackson became expendable in Seattle with the acquisition of Kentwan Balmer from the San Francisco 49ers.

For the Lions, it’s a buy-low opportunity on a 24-year-old defensive end who started 24 games over the past two seasons. Jackson had 4 1/2 sacks in 16 games last year, and will step into a backup role for the Lions

The move by itself is nice.... but didn't we just release Jason Hunter who's been better than this guy? According to twitter feeds, Jared DeVries knee isn't healing and the Lions are fearing the worse about him. If so, why release Hunter and then use a draft pick for a Jason Hunter type player?

it can't be a good sign when his college coach trades him away

^ Pete Carroll is running more of a hybrid 3-4 with 300 lbers across the line. He wants his DE to be a 300lb every down run blocker. Jackson is more of an athletic 4-3 pass rushing DE. He just didn't fit their scheme. He should do well behind KVB/Avril and with DTs like Suh who will be able to eat space and open things up for the outside.

I feel we let Hunter go cuz he would be deep on our depth chart and it was a respect move so he would be able to find a team while still early in the preseason.

^ Yeah I guess. I mean he was picked up by the Broncos right away, so hopefully he latches on there even though he's really not a 3-4 guy.

I hope Hunter doesn't hurt any Lions during tonights game. :x
