I doubt we draft a RB in the 2nd round unless our staff view them good enough to replace Smith long-term.

I could see us drafting one within the first 4 rounds, however...

Toby Gerhart is better than Kevin Smith. He's bigger, taller, stronger. He's got good vision. he can run through contact, break tackles. My god, he was a heisman canidate this year. I like KSmith, but Gerhart is much better.

He's also ready to play right now. Meanwhile, Smith will be trying to rehabd hoping to return in 2011.

MLive.com - Lions running back Kevin Smith may not be ready for the start of the 2010 season after suffering a knee injury this past weekend.

Tom Kowalski of MLive.com writes that Smith's injury could alter Detroit's draft strategy.

He eventually will return from knee surgery, but he probably won't be 100 percent healthy until the 2011 season

Detroit wasn't planning on drafting a RB, but it's a big need now. Why not take one of the best available?

Depends....if we can get a good RB in the 3rd round, I'd still like to draft defense in the 2nd....but if Gerhart is the best player on the board when we are on the clock, then we should take him.

Unless someone good falls along way down, there won't be much difference between the 2nd and 3rd round as far as defensive talent goes. This is basically a QB draft this year. All the stand out players are going high. I'd rather draft BPA with our 1st, go after a good RB with our 2nd, and draft defense the rest of the way.

Either Gerhart or that G Tech RB. Both can break tackles very good but the GTech RB is faster. Idk how I'd feel about a white runningback tbh lol.

I will be interested to see Dwyer's (GT RB) combine results. I worry about "system" RBs like Dwyer coming out the the triple option offense.

If he's the best RB, why would it matter? I really hate this thought that all white guys are subpar athletes to any black guy. Gerhart is right up there with Mark Ingram. You wouldn't think twice about taking Ingram.

Race should not be an issue when discussing RBs available in a draft - PERIOD.

well in good news for our draft stock this week.... Cleveland gets a pretty bad KC team and Tampa gets a just ok Seattle team. We should all be praying for the TB upset, but more realistically Cleveland could beat KC and set us into the #3 slot, which would put us in line at worst for one of the Suh/McCoy/Berry trio

We should already have the 3 spot over Cleveland already, shouldn't we?

Nope, we are 4, their strength of schedule is worse than ours. We could root for teams they have played to win as well i suppose, and teams we have played to lose, but having them win is way easier :)

Until today.....Cleveland beat KC, so now we're #3.

Too bad the Rams couldn't pull out the victory against the Texans....

More god news, Tampa beat Seattle today. Anyone know their strength of schedule compared to ours? Who would have the #2 pick?

We've had a pretty brutal schedule. I would bet on them having the better pick. Until they get another win!! C'mon Tampa.... YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

TB's opponent win percentage is actually considerably higher then Detroits.

Thanks to them having New Orleans in their division - does that mean we'd have the higher draft pick? Same record, but we had the easier schedule?

Chances CB Donovan Warren is there for us in the 3rd round?? I think there might be a small chance he is.

Return to Detroit Lions
