Apparently, Lions and Patriots are the front runners in getting Julius Peppers. Idk how I feel about that. I'd rather have Osi then Julius.

^^ Where do you get that from?

I doubt Peppers views us as a legit destination.

1) He'll want to go somewhere he will win
2) He wants to play in a 3-4 scheme
3) He has no ties here

I'd love Peppers here but not if it costs us our 2010 1st. We have a good shot at Suh, who will be a stud for many years. I would not give up Suh for Peppers. I'd give up a 3rd and 6th for Peppers.

No 1st for Peppers, probably not a 2nd either, but I would give up a third for him. He's still good and better than what we have.

Man, Hunter-Suh-DT-Peppers would be a very good d-line for us. With an average LB corp and at the very least, Delmas in the secondary with hopefully an upgrade at CB. Man, that would be sweet.

It'd be easier to trade for him than to sign him outright. We'd have to severely overpay to get him to sign with us over other teams. He'd be worth the money (within reason), but I dunno if the Fords will allow Mayhew to spend until ticket sales increase.

Watched Suh and the Cornhuskers shutout Arizona last night in the Holiday Bowl. Got Eric Berry and the Vols taking on Virginia Tech on ESPN at 7:30 pm tonight.

Got Stanford on CBS at 2pm.... gonna watch Gerhart.

Eric Berry has publically stated that he's entering the NFL draft.

In this draft, I want to either get all DB's, or all DL's, or all OL's in the first 2 or 3 rounds.

- DB -
(1) Eric Berry
(2) Patrick Robinson
(3) Javier Arenas

We'd become:
CB- Patrick Robinson
SS- Louis Delmas
FS- Eric Berry
CB- Javier Arenas

*We'd have a VERY young and VERY athletic and VERY talented secondary. If they commit to the Lions rebuild, they could very well be the best secondary in the NFL in 3 years.

- DL -
(1) Ndamukong Suh (DT)
(2) Jared Odrick (DT)
(3) Corey Wooton (DE)

We'd become:
DE- Corey Wooton
DT- Ndamukong Suh
DT- Jared Odrick
DE- Cliff Avril

*That's a solid DLine. I really like Corey Wooton's potential and size. With the right development, that could be a very very good DLine and would take one hell of a OLine to contain them.

- OL -
(1) Russel Okung (OT)
(2) Charles Brown (OT)
(3) Vladimir Ducasse (OG)

We'd become:
TE- Brandon Pettigrew
LT- Russel Okung
LG- Jeff Backus / Vladimir Ducasse
C- Dominic Raiola
RG- Gosder Cherilus
RT- Charles Brown / Jeff Backus

*That has potential to be a very athletic group of OLineman. The transition from T to G would be key for Cherilus and Backus (where I think they would fit in best).

Basically, I want to solidify whatever position our first round pick is with the 2nd and 3rd round. I don't wanna just get a little better here and a little better there. Reason being, if we draft Suh and then draft DB and OL the rest of the draft, Suh will be worthless cuz he will be getting double teamed EVERY play all of next year. He would be the only threat on the Lions DLine. If we completely solidified the DLine with the first 3 picks, then Suh won't get doubled as much cuz there will be other guys to worry about. I want to completely change one section at a time. If we make our DB's better in THIS draft, then we can aim for DL or OL in free agency and then next years draft worry about what's left. I think that is going to be the most sufficient way of doing things.

And if we were to draft a RB, I wouldn't mind giving Ryan Matthews a shot. I'd imagine he'd be a late 3rd - early 4th round pick. He is a great power runner with above average speed for a power runner. He's great running in the gut but can hit corners really well. He is marginal in the passing game though. That's something he'd definitely have to develop. Fresno NEVER uses him on passing downs.

LeGarrette Blount would also be a good power runner to give a chance at a later round draft choice. He's a HUGE RB at 250 pounds and is faster then guys like Gerhart and other power backs in the draft.

Jahvid Best is a RB I'd like if he's around in the 2nd round. I wasn't sold on drafting a RB before, but with Kevin Smith out till maybe 2011, and us needing a run game to balance off the looks to CJ who'll get harassed offensively is he's our only option, we need a above average RB prospect that can not only help us long term, but will be a threat right away. Gerhart, Matthews, Best, Dwyer could all be that.

I understand your point about solidifying one area, but I don't think we're good enough to do that. Not yet anyway. We have too many holes all over to continue looking past certain positions.

Guys on our defense I'd like around 5 years from now...

DE- Jason Hunter?
DT-
DT-
DE-
OLB-
MLB- DeAndre Levy
OLB-
CB-
FS-
SS- Louis Delmas
CB-

Jason Hunter has looked good when he hasn't been injured. I'd like to see more of him healthy before I pull him. He'll be a RFA so the Lions can hold on to him for at least another year to get an extended look.

I'm not sold on SL Hill or Cliff Avril long term. They are both still young and could finally get it, but right now, I wouldn't pass up solid players because they are on the team.

We need at the very least an above average DT, CB, DE, OLB, S.

This is such a good defensive draft, that the first three rounds, I think we have to take BPA available and then use the later rounds to try and snatch up hidden gems.

I wouldn't draft any Offense this draft (besides maybe a RB in the 2nd). It's really really weak. It has some good RBs in the 2nd/3rd rounds, but the offense is REALLY lacking. I wouldn't touch any O-line. Not even Okung because we'll have the #2 pick and he's not worth Suh or Berry.

Jahvid Best highlights:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQdhYCZIMRQ

He averages 7.3 ypc for his career at Cal. He's got great hands, incredible footwork and he just breaks through contact like it's nothing. He also could be used as a part time receiving option and a kick returner. He's efficient in multiple roles.

If he has a good combine, he could end up in the 1st round. But if he's available for us, I think the lions would have to strongly consider him vs. the other RBs.

Best is too Darren Sproles like. AND he is absolutely HORRID in pass blocking. How about Dexter McCluster from OleMiss? I watched him yesterday and he is a Chris Johnson clone.

Watchin' some things on this Dexter guy.. he's small, and doesn't have ideal size for the NFL, but boy is this guy BLAZING fast. He has a REAL REAL good head on his shoulders too. Very Christian and very committed to God.
The guys got so many HUGE TD runs of 40, 60, 70, 80 yards (Not to mention an 85 yard run against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl yesterday). This guy is a homerun hitter if he gets to the outside.

Plus he has dreads and when we draft guys with dreads, they turn out being really good football players lol (Ernie Sims and Louis Delmas)
