Agreed....
Then we do Iceness' #2 for #5 and Dorsey and take CB Haden at #5.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
I just read that Rolle is due $8 million in salary next year and a $4 million bonus. No way.
Icness heard about a trade for Dorsey, it wasn't #2 for Dorsey and #5. It was Glenn Dorsey, Derrick Johnson, and a 4th for our 2nd round pick, Julian Peterson, and our 6th round pick. I've tried to talk myself into it, but I think it's off the table because the Lions are now discussing restructuring JPs contract and keeping him.

Iceness brought up #2 for #5 and Dorsey just the other day in another thread...keep up Liq.
I don't think Rolle gets the $4 million bonus if he's cut....

Re: 2010 Free Agents
^ Where? I've read every thread and I've never seen it here.
That's still $8 million for a safety, when the Lions have alot of holes.
ETA: just checked, if the Lions picked Rolle off waivers, they'd still have to pay the bonus. That's $12 million for a safety. No way in the hell the Lions do that after paying someone #2 pick money.

If Rolle is released and a team picks him up, he keeps the same contract he had in Arizona. We have to wait I think 30 days for him to clear waivers and get rid of that contract. BUT, if that happens, he won't come to Detroit cuz there will be 30 other teams wanting him. I think the only chances Lions can get him is if they either trade for him or waiver him and keep his contract..... which I doubt that'll happen.

Wonder if Foote/Backus can lure Marlon Jackson back home?

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Theres a blurb on ESPN rumors about the Lions going after Rolle.
Also, alot of people (including but not limited to Kevin Seifert) about Chester Taylor coming home to Detroit to play for the Lions. I'm not to high on that camp, but it is a possibility I guess.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
I actually like the Chester Taylor idea...especially if Morris is dealt some time this offseason.
Taylor is good, and versatile, and his legs have low "mileage" or less wear and tear as he's been AD's backup for a couple seasons now....could be a solid pickup.
ICENESS - any indication from teams on Eric Berry? Is everyone viewing him as a safety, or are some teams thinking about possibly using him as a physical CB, who could move back to safety down the road? Lions like their CB's to be more physical - I wonder if Berry as a CB would appeal to them?

I would like Chester Taylor a lot. Like you said, low mileage and the one year he was the feature back he ranked 3rd in the league in yards per 1st down carry. He's fantastic in pass protect and as a receiver too.
re: Berry--it's ironic that you brought him up in the midst of an Antrell Rolle discussion, because I think they're quite similar. Rolle started as a bigger CB that did great at times but guessed too much, so they moved him to safety on base downs and slid him to slot corner in the nickel. I see that as the ideal role for Eric Berry and so do some others--Mike Mayock and Pat Kirwan among them. I think he's a lock to go to KC at #5, FWIW.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Probably both. I like Myron though...I have no idea where he is supposed to go but in the 3rd or 4th maybe i consider taking a gamble.

I honestly don't see Detroit looking at Antrel Rolle. Too expensive and the only way we'll have a chance to get him is if he clears waivers and even then, there will be 30 other teams that will want him.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Interesting read in the Detroit News today regarding the Lions possible free agent targets.
http://www.detnews.com/article/20100304 ... nt-targets
One name that I haven't heard or thought of that would make a lot of sense; OLB Keith Bullock. He played under Schwartz for years down in Tennessee. If we do end up trading or releasing JP, he'd fit in rather nicely...

Re: 2010 Free Agents
well you can add our own Phillip Buchanon to the FA list
http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/20 ... phill.html
I liked the signing when we made it but clearly he couldnt cut it. Certainly not for 3 and a half million.

It took exactly one year for the Detroit Lions to decide Phillip Buchanon wasn't right for the organization.
Already thin at the cornerback position, they waived the nine-year veteran on Thursday, according to a report on Pro Football Talk.
Buchanon, 29, signed with the Lions as a free agent on March 4, 2009 and was scheduled to make $3.5 million this season.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Redskins cut two guys the Lions might have interest in:
Fred Smoot and Ladell Betts.
CB Marlin Jackson was not tendered, I believe making him and UFA....

Lions are talking to Dunta Robinson right now. I hope that falls through.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Jake Delhomme was released
We should grab him. Seriously. He probably wont cost much. He is a veteran who can teach Stafford a bunch of stuff. And he could fill in admirably in case of injury. We wanted a #2 vet who has a good personality and would be willing to mentor and I think Jake is a good fit

I agree but I think the Bengals are going to go hard after him.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Buchanon sucked. He had exactly three great snaps that I can remember. And about three times as many horrible ones off the top of my head.
We need CBs badly.
