I have to agree. Didn't like the trade for Philly and it's a small price to pay for WAS for a chance to have a solid QB to give them a shot to do whatever the rest of their team is worth (which I still have some issues with, I've just hated how bad they've blown their opportunities to bring everything together).

Don't get me wrong... great move by Washington. I just don't think it made any since to give a 1st round tender on Jason Campbell. That's extra money and a potential 2nd or 3rd round draft pick they missed out on to keep him as the backup.

Yeah I agree with that too. Sure Campbell is interesting, but there's TONS of guys like that. Heck you can get a 1st round Brady Quinn for a freaking FB in this league! There's all kinds of cheap interesting QBs out there and more fresh ones every year. No need to go nuts with your tenders. And if you want a better franchise QB then allowing a team to get him for a 2nd round pick takes that team out of the QB market and gives you a chance to maybe get lucky and get a Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy or whoever you like at a VERY cheap cost.

I mean put yourself in the position of the other teams, what team can you represent that you want to use your 2nd round pick on Campbell over the other guys in this draft? I'm not picking Campbell with my 2nd on behalf of any team. So why give him a 1st round tender?

Right. If Washington placed a 3rd round tender on Campbell instead of a 1st, they would of saved money tendering him, gained a 3rd round pick since SOMEONE would pick him up, and got rid of his contract...... saving more money, and after that contract they are giving Haynesworth, they need all the money they can get.

Yeah but I wouldn't let him go for a 3rd, cause that would become almost a 4th when somebody in the back of the round takes him. And by putting a 2nd round tag on him I might find a deal better than a 3rd anyhow, such as a player I like, and the 2nd round level keeps the trade option alive long enough for me to find what I want to pluck. That's the perfect spot. Tenders suck for you most often because they typically have ranges that are no-brainers for teams to stay away from, or just out of trade value range, but this was a SPECIAL circumstance where you have a starting QB you can use as trade bait and you can use the tenders to get not too high or too low such that you have action there. And where there's action, there's 31 possible teams of which 1 team is bound to make a mistake and offer you a better deal than you require to move him.

The Campbell tender does look rather stupid now. But im guessing they will try to move him now. Not sure what his value is but Jason Campbell is not beating out McNabb.

Philly must really love Kolb. Like really love him. I think he is going to be quite good, but damn if they arent taking a huge risk.

That first Philly/Washington game is going to be must see

TSE. Campbell is either their 3rd stringer, waiver fodder, or hes going to wind up in a trade similar to Brady Quinns' (with a 1st for a nobody). They should've tendered him a little lower and actually got something for him.

Agreed....

Looks like Bradford to the Rams is a lock.

Philly trading McNabb to a division rival is quite odd....

And Washington putting a 1st round tender on Campbell is also kind of odd....

according to the wire tap Buffalo, Carolina, Oakland, Jax and someone else are all interested in Campbell. I'd bet he is dealt before or on draft day, maybe for a third or fourth rounder. They all make sense for Campbell, as all the 4 teams above starting QBs arent exactly awe inspiring (Moore, Gradkowski, Edwards, Garrard)

I'd say Bradford is a Ram, at this point. I think its beyond safe to say that. They have a decent 2nd QB in AJ, then Keith is a 3rd/Practice Sqaud QB and i've never heard of Mike Reiley until I looked up the Rams depth chart.

Me: Did you hear about what happened?

Jason: What?

Me: The Redskins traded for Donovan.

Jason: Really? Ummm … I didn’t know that, man.

Me: I’m sorry I had to be the one who told you. I can’t believe they didn’t tell you.

Jason: No, that’s the first I heard of it. … I’d better go call my agent.

When I called back later, it went to voice mail. His mailbox was full.

The problem, well one of many, that I have with the Redskins franchise is stuff like this. Read it, some reporter was the one that broke the news to Jason.

Any way the Redskins trade Campbell and their 1st to St. Louis for the #1 overall pick, and take Suh?

Would you honestly do that? if you ran the Rams. They are obvioussly, at the very least, intrigued by Sam Bradford.

Well maybe they think they can get Bradford at 4. So it would be cheaper and they get a backup to go with him, that they can use, or then trade. And if somebody trades up to get Bradford, then they can still consider Claussen if they like him, or they can go with Campbell and see how that goes and get their franchise QB next year when he'll be much cheaper. That is if Campbell doesn't work out for them, and then they can use that 4 pick on any position they want and get possibly their BPA of non-QBs.

If I were the Rams, I would STRONGLY consider it....would I rather have

Bradford

or

Campbell + (Berry or Okung)?

ps - I'm not too high on Bradford....

The problem is, no ones going to trade up to #1. Washington was most likely and they've now got McNabb. Unless they trade Haynesworth pre-draft (14 days away), I see no reason to trade up when they can get Okung at #4 and not pay a hefty price.

Would the Rams move down? most likely, but who the hell is going to trade up?

Jets gets Santonio Holmes for a draft pick. I don't get it though. Why go out and get a WR... their QB isn't allowed to throw but so many passes a game. Unless it's a green colored situation.

A 5th rounder at that....kinda baffling. One has to think that Pittsburgh knows something we dont...i saw they were going to release him if they couldnt trade him. Maybe his court case is going to be some trouble?

Well he's already suspended the first 4 games of the season (maybe we'll be one of those four games?). If Holmes is convicted, he could see jailtime.

I'm all for giving a guy a second chance, but they are playing with fire there is NY. At least Pacman and Stallworth had their legal issues resolved before the Lions even brought them in to interview and workout. This is an on-going investigation with Holmes.

Ben Roethlisberger is supposed to meet with Goodell today, let's see if he gets the same treatment (punishment without a conviction) that Pacman and now Holmes has gotten.

I bet Ben gets at least 4 games today. It would be absurd not to. Though at this point it would not surprise me if he got less (because he is a white QB) or got more (because stars need to be held to a higher standard)

Brandon Marshall traded to Miami for a 2010 2nd rounder and what appears to be a 2011 2nd rounder.

Very good trade for Miami. They were probably going to draft a WR in the 1st. Now they can trade down and get their NT and another pick.

Return to Detroit Lions
