Doesn't have LT's elusiveness....but I agree on the size/speed aspect. Also, just posted about him and Ben Tate (Auburn) being the draft's best size/speed RBs in the draft.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
To be honest, I thought the RBs had the best day and really outdid the QBs and WRs. We all know the top guys (Dwyer, Spiller, Matthews, Best, etc) but I really did like a few of the guys who will get drafted later like Javarris James, Brandon Banks, Emmanuel Sanders, etc.
McCluster won't go in the first round. But I can see him moving up to the second move. I loved what I saw from him. Not even just his 40 time but he had really good hands, was able to switch his hips very fluidly, and looked smooth running with the ball. I also liked his little snippet about all his work in the community. He's just a good guy who works hard. I wonder if #34 is too soon to draft him? Probably not if we do get Cromartie. CB won't be as pressing an issue which can open up RBs in round 2 in my opinion.
1st- Ndamukong Suh
2nd- Dexter McCluster
3rd- OLine

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
According to NFL network, the Lions had dinner with Russell Okung. And so now they are saying that he's our pick since the Lions took Stafford to dinner last year. I guess they forgot the Lions dinners with Aaron Curry, Jason Smith and even Mark Sanchez. I wouldn't be surprised if they showed interest in him, especially since the Seahawks claim they need to draft a LT earlier than they originally though.
Also, Sean Weatherspoon was talking to the commentators about the combine and how his interviews were going. He specifically said the Lions had talked to him and asked him about whether he could play inside or if he's just and outside linebacker. This shocked me, because earlier, a draft pick said he wasn't allowed to say what teams he interviewed with.
At the very least, we know the Lions are making the rounds and covering alot of guys.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Reports have the Lions meeting with Suh a couple times already.
No word about whether or not they've met with McCoy, Haden, or Berry....

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Lions were the first team to interview Suh right from the start, then they went back that night and talked again, all according to Ndamukong himself.
I think I did read that Gerald McCoy meet with the Lions. Haven't heard anything about Berry or Haden though. Berry is moving down alot of the boards I've seen. Mayock has him 12th overall now.

Yeah, the night meeting (Suh) was with Cunningham and the D-line coach I believe....
Suh/Dorsey would be AWESOME.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
McCoy put up a kinda dissapointing 23 reps today. one of the lowest for DTs. Suh put up 32, which is about in the middle or a little higher

Suh is having a pretty impressive showing so far:
4.98 in the 40 (McCoy is 4.96)
35.5" vertical (nothing by McCoy yet...)
32 reps (McCoy did 23)

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Unless you're Mike Mayock who's too stubborn to admit you're wrong, Suh showed why he's the best in the combine. He was focused, fundamentally sound, and very impressive in every aspect. Gerald McCoy looked unfocused, not as agile, and had to have drills explained to him more than once because he didn't know the techniques he should have been working on for weeks now. Very very disappointing.
I know I'm biased, but I've maintained that they were very close all along. I don't think that anymore. Seeing them both now, it's obvious who took these weeks seriously, put in the work, and came prepared to earn a top pick. It' not even the bench press (which did raise some red flags), it was just both of their approaches. Suh said that he didn't want to be distracted and was working to be the best. Gerald said that he just wanted to have fun and take it all in. And I really hate to say it, but it showed.

^ Suhs combine is definetly more impressive thus far and I would have to think he is the pick if the Rams go Bradford. I gotta say I am more sold on Suh after this. Heres to hoping...

Well that's good for us then. To put up only 23 reps as a 300 pound top DT prospect is embarrassing in that category and could make TB just want to trade with us more. Brady Quinn can do more reps than McCoy.

Okung had a pretty impressive day. 6'5'', 307 with one ofthe longest pairs of arms easily in the class and the most bench reps with an awesome 38. He certainly would fit in to the O-line nicely.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
More combine results that stood out to me:
LB's:
Jamar Cheney (Miss St.) - 6'1", 242, ran a 4.51 and did 26 reps - no vertical yet.
Sean Weatherspoon (Missouri) - 6'1", 239, ran a 4.57, did 34 reps, 40" vertical, 10'3" broad jump
Dekoda Watson (Florida St.) - 6'1", 240, ran a 4.53, 40" vertical, and did not bench yet, 11'2" broad jump
DE Jerry Hughes (TCU) looks like he might be a steal. 6'1 3/4", 255 and runs a 4.59

Yeah Weatherspoon is a can't miss, I guarantee you that he will succeed in the NFL. Hughes I don't think is that much of secret, his production screams loud alarms.

It's not that I don't like Okung, I just find it ridiculous that these talking heads seems to cherry pick what info they want to present and do it in a suggestive way. Lions had dinner with at least 4 draft prospects last year that could have gone #1, I doubt Okung wil be the one and only they had/will have dinner with before this years draft.
I liked alot of what I saw from Weatherspoon. If he can really play both inside and outside linebacker, I think it could make him even more appealing to our coaching staff who are looking for versatile players.

I wasnt meaning to suggest that the commentators were right; far from it. Im guessing, assuming we stay at 2, we will have our eyes on Suh, McCoy and Okung and have dinner with all 3. To imply that a dinner with a prospect means its who we are taking is stupid.
My point just was that Okung measured up very well and does make some sense, though no one is talking about him.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
I agree, and to be honest, I think the Lions are very high on him. I think he might be higher on their board than McCoy. The way Schwartz is insistent that the top two DTs aren't nessecarily the best two players is quite revealing in Schwartz' way of saying things without saying them.
Right now, I wouldn't be upset with a draft of
1st- Ndamukong Suh, DT
2nd- Sean Weatherspoon, OLB
3rd- Jon Asamoah, LG
4th- Ben Tate, RB
My dream blue print.....
QB- Matthew Stafford
WR- Calvin Johnson
LT
LG- Jon Asamoah
C
RG
RT
TE- Brandon Pettigrew
WR
FB
RB- Ben Tate
DE
DT- Ndamukong Suh
DT
DE
LB- Sean Weatherspoon
LB- DeAndre Levy
LB
CB
SS
FS- Louis Delmas
CB- Antonio Cromartie?
Trade for a young WR, keep track of the waiver wire, draft a couple OL, a CB, and a DE or two next draft.
We're not loaded, we won't be for at least another year of drafting, but we have some damn good pieces to build around, all around.

Weatherspoon won't make it to the 2nd round. No way at all. He's up there with Iupati who pretty much solidified himself as a 1st round pick with senior bowl / combine.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
frankly im not sure about the LB fascination all of the sudden here. Id say LBs are the one spot we could kinda shy away from. On defense we need Dline and DBs. We have a decent LB group right now. A CB in round two makes alot more sense
