holy hell we just traded up to get Best! Gave up a 4th and a 7th to do it...i think?

Either way we just landed our HR threat. I wanted a CB but with all the good guys gone this was probably the correct move. The offense is going to be so nasty

Round 1: Ndamukong Suh (2)
Round 1: Jahvid Best (30)
Round 3: No. 66 overall
Round 4: No. 128 overall
Round 7(a): No. 213 overall (from Seattle)
Round 7(b): No. 214 overall (from Cleveland)
Round 7 (c): No. 220 overall (from Denver)
Round 7(d): No. 255 overall (compensatory)

So the Best trade was #34, #100 (4th round) and a 7th for #30, #128 (4th round). Where we took Best. These are our picks going forward, minus one of the 7th rounders that we traded but they haven't said which one.

I guess now as i go to sleep the question is what do we do in the third? LB or CB has to be it, no question.

Overall, we got the best player in the draft and (arguably) one of the best playmakers in the draft. Frankly im happy as hell and i'll be sleeping well tonight. later fellas.

OT is still VERY possible, as is DE. So I see 4 positions that I could possibly consider for the next 2 picks. Although well technically I'd still be going for a QB and a complete roster re-design, but under the Mayhew path those are the 4 positions to look at, and each should be considered thoroughly. DE being the longshot of the 4 unless we can ship out some of the extra bodies on the DL.

I told everyone the lions would take a RB with the second pick..
after the first 3 RB's taken theirs a big drop-off.

the next 2 picks the lions will take a linbacker and an offence lineman.

This was a player we had a plan for exactly how we were going to use him on offense. If we didn't get him, I was just praying he wouldn't go to Green Bay, Minnesota or Chicago where we'd have to see him twice a season."

Detroit traded its second- and one of its seventh-round picks to the Vikings and flip-flopped picks in the fourth round with Minnesota to get the opportunity to draft Best.

"There were three running backs in the draft that we liked and the other two (C.J. Spiller and Ryan Mathews) were already drafted," said general manager Martin Mayhew

Here's what someone said about the trade :
The Vikings suck. What a stupid trade. You don't help a team in your division get better. At least I'll get to watch the BIQueens lose in the playoffs again.

I really like Best and have no problem with the pick, but I don't understand why you would move up to take him. With McCoy, Clausen, Griffin, Benn, Dunlap, Kindle, etc still on the board... the Lions would have had great leverage going into day 2 to acquire more picks.

I'm glad we didn't give up a fourth to do it, but it still doesn't make much sense to me. But again, I really like Jahvid, never had the worries others did and am glad he's a Lion... but the trade to pick him is a little headscratching.

BUT WH THE HELL CARES?!? WE GOT SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

So far the lions has the best draft with the 2 players they have taken, but now they need a linebacker real bad with the loss of Sims and foote.

with teams having the nite off to think about moving up to get a player
best may have not been their at 34 and the lions did not give up a whole lot so i like the move and bottom line we got Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssttttttttttt!!!!!!!

IMO, we need a CB and an OLB in 3rd and 4th rounds....

CB targets: Ghee, Warren, Ansu-Ansah, Cook

On mlive, Killer states that Gunther has a sleeper LBer he wants to draft, but can't get a name out of him. Take best available CB in the 3rd, and this sleeper LB in the 4th?

^ I think that's the plan. I wouldn't be shocked if Perrish Cox was the pick in the 3rd. The Lions have brought him in for a number of visits. He fits the the big, physical CB they've talked about wanting.

lions pick 3rd round
Amari Spievey (CB)
Height:5'11"

Spievey is a two year starter for the Hawkeyes after transferring from Iowa Central Community college. He has a good combination of size and athleticism for the position. Spievey doesn’t have great power and pop as a run support defender but gives consistent effort and is solid in the open field. Spievey is just average as a reactor to route progressions and has some work to do in this phase of his game. He does have a good feel for leverage in the running game and is quick to squeeze running lanes from the perimeter. Spievey shows good hands with the ball in the air and is aggressive to make a play in traffic. Spievey is a good football player that has a higher ceiling than many prospects but may take some time to work into a starting role.

Spievey, listed at 5-feet-10, 195 pounds, is considered a physical player and solid tackler. But he doesn’t have top speed, running the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds.

General manager Martin Mayhew said Spievay was expected to compete for playing time and contribute on special teams.

Spievey is a GREAT pick. He's the physical CB the Lions have talked about getting. He's a big tackler at the CB position. Something people around here wanted so badly that they didn't want Cromartie because he wasn't so good at it. I think Houston/Spievey/Pacman (maybe) would be a nice trio of CBs for the Lions.

Liqourish i agree he is good on the physical part of the game but what i have been hearing is that he is slow(but getting faster) and can be beat over the top .

One of the criticisms of Spievey was that he didn't have the elite speed of some NFL cornerbacks.

He disputed those claims.

"I got beat one time in a Penn State game, but it was a coverage bust," Spievey said. "It was like the guy just blew by me. It wasn't him, it was me. I messed up, but I haven't been beat my whole career, so I'm really not worried much."

check out this artical it was a very interesting read:

http://www.detroitlions.com/news/articl ... 2358d80672

p.s. after reading it again i will have to up my grade on him.

In the seventh round lions will pick 1 offence lineman 1 linebacker and 1 kicker.

Kinda upset with Fox when Cox and Jones was still on the board. They could of started right away for us and we picked a depth pick instead.

I like Jason Fox. He's a good sized OT with a ton of potential. Injuries have sidelined him, but he's a nice prospect to develop. I talked him up earlier, during the season, but people thought we didn't need a project OT.

I was surprised we passed up some DBs that were still available, but I'm putting my trust in Mayhew/Schwartz.

When you realize that we traded both 5ths and our 6th for starters... we've gotten very good value at each pick

1. Ndamukong Suh DT
1. Jahvid Best RB
3. Amari Spievey CB
4. Jason Fox OT
5. Corey Williams DT
5. Rob Sims OG
6. Chris Houston CB

and we still have 3 7th round picks to add some depth to our team.

That's cause Mayhew sucks at football strategy. A terrible thing to be bad at if you are an NFL GM.
