Tim Twentyman ‏@ttwentyman
Lions have signed punter Blake Clingan to a one-year deal, according to his agent. Blake impressed at a tryout today.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
Interesting to hear how strongly #Lions are considering playing 2012 1st Riley Reiff at guard. Drafted as a tackle, so not great value-wise

I would hate moving Reiff to guard.

Ugh...

Anyone else get the scarey gut feeling that this will be another offseason where we use all our money signing guys past their primes and/or others team's castoffs instead of going after a couple difference-makers??

Depends. If they get some re-structures done and make some cuts then no. If they don't then it will probably be a boring FA.

Delmas wants long-term security, the Lions are not willing to give that to him based on his durability issues. If someone else will, he will leave. From what I've heard the two sides are actually pretty close on $$ but it's the years and guarantees that are the hangups.

How Delmas can be askign for security is ridiculous. Mofo can't stay on the field. i hope he comes back

I know it's not sexy and he won't come cheap, but I would love for the Lions to sign Shane Lechler. He's the best punter in NFL history and it's not close, and his value is low because he's coming off a poor (for him) season. Probably not the most prudent use of $$ but I really love the guy.

 sorry but i think our money best be used else where. i get your train of thought, but like you said won't come cheap. our ST does need all the help it can though

Goldson's not going to be cheap, and neither is long. i'd keep my eye on guys like Abraham and Freeney. If Avril walks, i think there's a chance we look at them.

DeAndre Levy re-signed today. Say goodbye to Justin Durant.

haven't seen the terms yet but sounds like 4 years. I like the Lions choosing Levy over Durant. Linebacker corps is now essentially set for 2013: Levy, Tulloch, and Palmer/Whitehead starting, Palmer/Whitehead, T. Lewis, and R. Lewis the reserves w/ Carmen Messina and a camp body or two pushing them.

Also heard today that Avril is a "mortal lock" to go to Cleveland, though the person who told me that has a vested interest in him going to Cleveland.

From the sounds of our cap situation, I won't be crushed if Avril leaves. Someone is going to pay him way more than we can

I like Durant more than Levy but Levy might have been cheaper so I can live with it.

I don't trust the other OLB though.

We'll know what we are getting from durant. good solid production however not a playmaker. Levy however has the higher upside, where if he's on, he can cause havoc for a offense. Problem is that that's purely potential. If Levy ends up being cheaper, i'd go with him just because the difference between the 2 isn't worth the cap space

Glad to hear it, going to miss durant, but that's football. i'm excited to see 1 of the other LB's and why coaches are so high on them. Anyone particular you've seen and liked ice?

If Avril's going to cleveland, good luck with that. While Avrils a good pass rusher, he's not elite and has holes. i think 10 mil is reasonable for what he does and doesn't do. Hopefully we can sign someone else or this means young or jackson shows up

We get a 2014 pick as compensation for losing Avril, correct? I'm assuming we don't make a huge signing to compensate his leaving.

Sounds like our plan is to re-sign our CHEAP FAs and maybe Houston.

Levy was the right choice. Comparable to Durant, homegrown and cheaper. Would like to see the money details though...

Depending on how the FA market for LB sets up, Durant could still be back for pretty cheap

Got a strong indication this AM that LoJack will be back. I support that.

Not cheap enough given the cap situation

This would be a smart move

Anything on Delmas? Just read that he flew in for a physical.

Heard Delmas flew in, took his physical, then flew out -- no contract was signed.

Whats the word on Reggie Bush?

It seems like we are resigning a lot of our own players before even courting Bush. We will have money left to sign Reggie?

We probably have enough to get Bush right now.

I expect Mayhew to do some restructures before Tuesday at 4 if he can't get a new Stafford deal done so we can be more active.

Per Detroit NEws, we apparently rumored to be interested in LaGarrett Blount for a 5th round pick. i actually wouldn't mind this pick up except for Blount's low character past at oregon. Additionally i don't get how that solves our play maker out the back field problem.

1.) we drafted leshoure who it seems is a little to early to give up on
2.) Apparently of the 2 , Lions are higher on Bell
3.) if we bring in blount, one of the other 2 gtg, and we used a 5th round pick on a position in which we didn't necessarily need to change

Multiple reports say Lions and Cardinals at the top of the list to get Bush, or at least they are pursuing him the hardest. Some say Lions have been the most aggressive of all teams, and are "all in" for Bush.

Tim Twentyman thinks if the Lions truly want him that bad, that they can find a way to make it work capwise.

So if we have the money that he wants, it may just come down to what team he wants to play for. I personally don't see how you pass up a chance to play opposite Megatron in his prime, if you're a RB. Its like a guard getting to play with Shaq in his prime. All the attention of the defense goes to Calvin, and Bush will have running lanes for days.
