That's what I said 5 years ago, and we haven't tried that approach ONE time in the last 10 years. The fact that we didn't manage our team well last year is incontrovertible evidence that Mayhew isn't remotely qualified to be an NFL GM. He's trapped inside a box with the way he thinks, and he's still not even coming close to scratching the surface of the right types of transactional moves that we need to be making. He just doesn't get this.

to be fair, he's only been the GM for 1 full season so far....1 season after taking over a team that didn't win a single game nonetheless. Lets see what he does this offseason before we call for his head.

Yeah but to be fair, I would have a TON more progress for the future already in place. Mayhew has stripped our team down from a beautiful position that we could have had. Our team on paper is drastically different and drastically worse than what I would have today after only 1 year with the team. The problem is that Mayhew has no concept of strategy to redesign this team into a machine of optimal efficiency. I'd have to give him a D+ grade, which is about as horrible as I could possibly give a guy that still had a halfway decent draft.

Just because you may be able to make the Lions a contender on Madden 2010 does not mean you could be able to turn this team around in the real world of the NFL. Give Mayhew some time. I think he did a great job of cleaning house and not signing anyone to a long term contract other than Stafford so that he could leave the team in position to start making positive moves over the next few years. I am sure with Schwartz/Mayhew having a year to evaluate the players on the team they now have a better idea of what issues are the most pressing to address. Both the offensive and defensive lines need to be addressed. Actually the whole defense needs to be addressed, Delmas was really the only bright spot of the defense. Other issues that the Lions also need to figure out is avoiding injuries so the team can truly learn to play together as a collective unit.

^Agreed 100%. TSE is all about statistics and logic. He is not an athlete so he don't understand that building a team is NOT about statistics. Real football is NOT fantasy football. He thinks he has a better idea on evaluated players sitting on his sofa then the ACTUAL coaches and gm's have first hand experience. He's a smart moron in a nutshell.

But then there's people like TSE and KellMellus that come in here and post stupid things then when we tell them that they are stupid, they say "This is why the Lions forum is so dead".

LOL GUESS WHAT!!!!!!! THE LIONS FORUM IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR NFL TEAM FORUMS ON REALGM! I'd say it's 2nd behind the Green Bay forum and the GB forum is kinda boring.

I was thinking, why not go for Richard Seymour? Wiretap says he's not gonna resign with the Patriots and best case scenario, we draft Suh and already have Seymour on the team. Suh is supposed to be a clone of Seymour and Seymour is a bonafied vet that can STILL cause damage. He would be able to show Suh the ropes while still helping our team and that would take care of our DT problems for this season.

I'd say no. Seymour is already 30 yrs old. Plus we have Avril and Hunter at DE and they looked good when they were healthy. We need DTs not DEs.

Seymour can play DT. He was drafted as a DT.

ESPN Insider says Lions are interested in Aaron Kampman.

And the Lions entered themselves in the hunt for Anquan Boldin. GAWD that would be great for CJ.

good lord would it ever. CJ going deep, Anquan getting the short routes and smoking people after the catch. Those two with Pettigrew down the middle.....Stafford would have weapons galore. dreamy

I'd love Kampman and Boldin. Damn that would be huge for the Lions.

He's gotta learn to stay healthy first, though... BUT his price tag is going down with the emergence of Steve Breaston so maybe our 2nd rounder and a 4th?.... since it was said that a 2nd rounder was to be spent on a WR anyways.

I'd spend a 2nd rounder on Boldin. He's a premiere WR and would be great opposite CJ.

QB- Matt Stafford
WR1- Calvin Johnson
WR2- Anquan Boldin
TE- Brandon Pettigrew
RB- ??????/A. Brown

All we'd need is an upgraded O-line and our offense would be money!!

I'd definitely draft all defense if we got Boldin.

Get our defense to only allow 21 pts/gm instead of 30+ pts/gm and let Stafford throw downfield. With CJ and AB, we could definitely get at least 3 TDs a game.

Agreed. If we get Boldin, draft ALLLLL defense and address our OLine, RB, and maybe a couple vet defenders.

If we get Kampman and Boldin in FA... Suh, Javair Arenas or Patrick Robinson or Trevard Lindley, another DT, another CB, a safety, and a kicker, I think we'd be set on that draft.

(1) Suh
(3) Robinson / Arenas / Lindley (In that order if available)
(4) DT
(5) Best available defensive back
(6) Best available defensive back
(7) Kicker

With that draft and the additions of Boldin and Kampman, we could COMPLETELY put all our free agency on one or two defensive players and the rest on our OLine and RB and possible 3rd WR. I'm loving life right now.

Well we gotta get them first. Boldin and Kampman will get mutliple offers. But the Lions need to spend to build this team. No good FA is going to sign here cheap.

I think with the new direction, people that have something to prove would wanna come play for Detroit. People like Kampman and Boldin. It's only ESPN InSider though. Most of the time they just make up **** to get people crazy lol
