Re: Draft Talk
I hear you man. I'm not saying I like it, but it is what it is. I guess part of my thinking is that Jenkins is showing his colors before he even gets NFL money and it will only get worse. Talib wasn't "clean" by any means coming out of Kansas (he tested positive for pot at the Combine) but at least his criminal record was just a public intox, which IMO every college student should get arrested for at least once.
I don't think the Lions are likely to bring him in, not after how hard they pushed away from Pacman Jones. FWIW I've always found Talib overrated, from his draft position to his play other than about half of his rookie season when he was legitimately very good. He's helped a lot by Ronde Barber on the other side, and EJ Biggers (a WMU product I really liked) was just as good if not better than Talib last year.
I know I'm in the minorty but I like the Lions corners well enough to go to battle with them. Chris Houston, Alphonso Smith, Nate Vasher, Jack Williams if healthy--that's not a terrible group. They're not great but IMO the hole at both OLB spots is significantly worse, as is the OL depth and the #3 WR. Mayhew seems to have a knack for finding capable discards at CB and there is a fair FA crop: Jonathan Joseph, Richard Marshall, Eric Wright, Ike Taylor, Carlos Rogers, Josh Wilson. Actually I forgot--Houston is a free agent too, that might raise my level of concern a little more. We're still better at corner than Chicago and Minnesota and you don't hear their fans screaming for first-round help there.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

^ I think we can survive without a CB as well for right now. OLB is a freakin mess though and unless we go that way second round I'm not sure how we improve it much tomorrow and this weekend. Nobody in the first where we are is worth it.
Martez Wilson in the second?

If we could get Wilson in the second, and Carter in the 3rd, I would feel much better about out LB corps.
But if we were to resign Houston, sign Aso, and draft Prince, we could just line up in a 4-2-5 and we wouldn't need as many good backers

Hoping for OL or a trade back tonight. I'm much more intrigued by Friday, Rounds 2-3.

Me too. Castonzo or Smith would be great. A trade back even better

Re: Draft Talk
It's going to be Nick Fairley or Robert Quinn. I say pass on Amakamura if he is there. C'mon NICK FAIRLEY PLEASE!
Hoping Minny doesn't get Gabbert too. THANKS JACKSONVILLE! Who is having a worse day than David Garrard right now? Team uses their 2nd and 1st to get somebody who can't see the field unless it's to take his job, which now it could be by Week 1. That must suck. Maybe they will trade him for Shaun Hill.

They spent 2 firsts, a second, and 2 fourths on a wr with suspect hands, insanity in my mind

Re: Draft Talk
Hate the pick, absolutely hate it. Nothing against Fairley but DT is the last thing we needed. What good is he when Stafford is hurt and the LBs can't do anything behind them?
The only thing I can think is that Fairley plays end, Avril is gone, and the Lions play a lot of 2-man line like Gb does.

Re: Draft Talk
I get the whole BPA angle--and Fairley was the best guy still around on my board--but I just don't see the fit at all. You have a once-a-generation talent at the 3 technique as a All Pro rookie last year, then draft the same position the very next year? Not what I would do.
I have now heard they were close to a deal with Philly but Mayhew & Co. were very happy to take Fairley and not risk dropping a talent tier. Looks like Mayhew listened to you TSE, now who you gonna blame I say that not out of enmity but more in jest, btw...

Well the best choice was so obvious. And staying away from CBs so we can target them via FA is great. We could take a WR in Rd 2 like Jernigan, or an OT like Derrek Sherrod, or Danny Watkins if he drops, we could get Ingram or Leshoure potentially, or we could get Rahim Moore at Safety, but most likely I think we will go LB, plus I think all those guys will be gone and only the LBs will be left anyhow.
Perhaps Bruce Carter falls to us, that's my premonition!
