But thats the thing....Suh would help the pass defense. The biggest problem with our pass defense is that we put no pressure on the QB. I dont care who your DB's are, if the QB is getting 7 seconds with no pressure, he can check all his options, set his feet and make an unimpeded throw. And it gets completed almost every time. This is what happens against us.

Suh is the type of player who could help put pressure on the QB so that they cant make those prefect throws. So that they're moving or feeling the heat, or not getting the chance to check all the options. Suh is the guy who could, *gasp*, actually hit the QB, something our D-line seems allergic to. And he is going to obviously bolster the run-d as well, which is still really bad.

I like Eric Berry too, i do, but Suh really is the guy. Pressure on the QB = better pass D, every time

+1, I've said this before. We don't pressure the QB at all, which puts so much more work on our lousy secondary. It all starts up front. Brady **** Quinn had all day to throw downfield against us. Browns hadn't scored more than 5 TDs all season and none to a WR until he played the Lions and had all day to throw.

Eric Berry is nice. But we have bigger holes. If Suh, McCoy, Okung are off the board... I take Berry hands down. But our lines are killing us.

It's not that simple though. Yeah, good DL's put pressure on the QB and that'll make him throw faster, but that doesn't really put THAT much effect on a QB. Aaron Rodgers has the WORST OLine in the NFL and he's a top 5 QB in the NFL. He gets sacked more then any other QB in the league but puts up better numbers then 90% of the QB's in the league.

Yeah, you can use Brady Quinn as a good example.. but who on Cleveland is worse then Brady Quinn? Brady Quinn's receivers!! Is it the DLine's fault that Cleveland receivers were down the field past all our secondary EVERY FUUCKING TIME?! ****, I coulda thrown around Detroit's secondary that game, no exaggeration. When you are last in every passing defense category, it's 90% caused by the secondary. Our DLine isn't great, but it's average among the league. Our OLine isn't great, but it's better then about GB and KC and OAK, and a couple other teams. When you are last in every statistical position category, you HAVE to go after that position.

And another thing, overhyped college players, whether they go number one or not, ask for a **** load of money. Michael Crabtree is a good example. Suh will be no different. Eric Berry is the number one player on the top prospect board... yet he is relatively quiet.

Ok, I understand if Suh is available we gotta go after him, but if he's not, then it HASSS to be Berry. Okung or McCoy only gets drafted if Berry AND Suh are taken though.

Suh or Berry or bust imo.

Who's top player board? Not ESPN's. Not NLF.com's. Not any board I've hear or read. Suh has been #1 for awhile now. Some don't think he'll go first if St. Louis or Cleveland get the #1 pick, because they need offense more. But Suh is undisputedly the best prospect.

Berry has been quiet. But so has Suh, and McCoy for that matter. None of them have said anything about salary so I don't know where this argumentis coming from.

Mel Kiper had Eric Berry number one for a while. I haven't seen it recently I guess. But there is such a big difference between McCoy and Suh, that is makes me not even want McCoy at all.

I'm not as high on McCoy either but he's still a top 5 talent and at a position we need badly.

If you had a gun at my head my top picks would probably be

1. Ndamukong Suh

2. Eric Berry
3. Russell Okung

4. Gerald McCoy

5. Dez Bryant (RIP Matt Millen) :P

I don't like Dez to be honest. I'm not a fan of having two huge receivers. Megatron is great and I never ever wanna get rid of him. Now, I want a small fast agile possession receiver. I kinda miss Mike Furrey, but would also love to have Kevin Curtis come in as well.

I'm liking the 2nd and 3rd round prospects that should be around for Detroit.
Top of the second:
Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern. Consistently got in the backfield in the Big 10 despite being at about 75% recovered from knee surgery. Could be redundant with Cliff Avril, though Wootton is ~30 pounds bigger.
Perrish Cox, CB, OK State. Speedy and instinctive, not afraid to tackle. Has some Leon Hall to him but not as big.
Anthony Davis, T, Rutgers. Gets flagged for immaturity but athletically he's better than Joe Staley.
Lindsey Witten, DE, UConn. Amazing first step and he closes quickly on both the run and pass.
Charles Brown, T, USC. Converted TE is great in pass protect, might be gone though.
Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse. 3-gap penetrator with good quickness, coming off injury. Good complement to SL Hill.

Top of the 3rd:
Vladimir Ducasse, T, UMass. A much more NFL-ready small-school version of Sebastian Vollmer from last year. 6'9" but great pad level and knee bend,
Jared Veldheer, T, Hillsdale. Even smaller school, will need some seasoning but if he went to Ohio State or USC he'd be a top 10 overall pick. Probably a better RT though and that's where Cherilus will be, unfortunately.
Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M. Blitzing OLB with great speed, horrible in coverage and not a great tackler though.
Jerome Murphy, CB, South Florida. Physical man-cover corner with great feet
Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State. Could fit in the above group, very similar to Charles Tillman
Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama. Short but a legit playmaker.
Deandre McDaniel, S, Clemson. Tackling machine also 2nd in the country in INTs. Has past character issues.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Cleveland wins. Detroit moves up in the draft. Now all we need is a TB win and a STL win.

Suh is a defensive player going up for the Heisman. He's gonna want huge money regardless.

Not really, Detroit and Cleveland are tied, but since we beat them, they get the better pick. We need Tampa to win. I don't want the first pick, I just want the teams not taking a QB to draft after us. Suh for me please.

I don't get this money issues you seem to have with Suh. I know your riding Berry hard, but every player will want their share. I don't see why Suh stands out for you other than the fact that he's wanted here more than Eric is.

No doubt. And he will get paid. But looking at last years top picks...

From 1 to 2 is an 11 million dollar drop. There til 5 is virtually the same. It frankly does make a difference and 11 mill is nothin to sneeze at. Im telling ya, #2 after St. Louis is our best bet

Hopefully STL don't win another one or that puts us before them.

BUT what happens if us, STL and CLE all finish with 2 wins and we beat CLE, STL beat us, and CLE beat STL?

hypothetically of course.

It doesnt depend on head to head. It goes on lowest strength of schedule. If thats the same, than it goes to Division and Conference records, and if that still doesnt work it goes to a coin flip.

I think thats what you were asking more or less...

Hey Icness, can we get some feedback on some RBs in the draft? Any after the first round? preferably one that can break tackles.

A really good RB I'd like in the 2-4th rounds would be Matthews out of Fresno State....could be a good sleeper.

Our 1st round draft prospects should be (in no particular order)
Suh
Berry
Okung

I think our best-case scenario is that we draft 3rd. Looking at their respective schedules, I don't see either St. Louis or Tampa winning any of their remaining games. However, Cleveland has a few winable games - against Oakland and Kansas City.

If Suh is off the board, I want Berry. If Berry is off the board, I'd be fine with either McCoy or Okung.

2nd round, I'm looking at a 1st that fell or best RB available (possibly Toby Gerhart from Stanford). With Kevin out, we need a RB. Aaron Brown is good, but he's not enough for our meager running game.

Return to Detroit Lions
