Suh only 1st rounder not to sign

Reports say he wants more money than Bradford got.
This is BS. Every day of TC he misses, that's more respect that I lost for him. Get paid like the number 2 overall pick! If you don't like it, then sit out and get redrafted next year when the rookie cap will be set and get paid less money then you want right now. Jesus, I hate jackasses like this.

There are other 1st rounders still not signed (Spiller, Okung, Gresham) but they are all starting to.
Suh wants fair money, Lions wants to lowball him into a contract smaller than Staffords. I think that went out the window when Bradford got $50M gauranteed. If Bradford would have gotten slightly more than Stafford, this would be a non issue and Suh would be signed right now. But since the Rams gave Bradford all that money, Suhs price tag goes up as well. It's the nature of the beast.

The fact that Suh has made it a point to say that he would not miss training camp is what is bothering me. He initially seemed like a guy who was truly about the game and not so much about the money. I understand that this is all a part of the process, but he lied. Straight up lied. If he really wanted to stick to his word, he would have become involved in the talks by telling his agents to speed things up. The longer this holdout lasts the less and less I am liking this guy, and I loved him and the Lions when this pick was made. He is not a quarterback so I think that Bradford's contract doesn't play as big of a role as people say it does. He needs to be compared to McCoy, while still not becoming the highest paid player on the roster.

Look at the deals signed by both Bradford and McCoy, and meet in the middle already people (Suh and Lions FO).
Bradford got 6 years, $78 million - $50 million guaranteed
McCoy got 5 years, $63 million - $35 million guaranteed
Fair deal IMO for Suh = 6 years, $74 million with $42.5 million guaranteed.

Im split still. Suh did promise not to hold out, and he seems like a good guy, so this happening makes him look like a jerk, like epheisey said. Im not sure he actually lied as made a bad agent choice. I hate the way the NFL rookie salary system works and look forward to when it is changed (next year i believe). And Eugene Parker is clearly a dick.
I just really hope this gets over very soon and we can see him getting that valuable training camp time. Im not freaking yet, but if this spills over into the weekend somehow i will be upset

Worst part is, its far enough along that both parties know what the other wants. Either one side is being blatently unfair (Suh wants way too much, or the Lions or offering way less than "fair" value) or its time for the two sides to meet in the middle.

I heard from a friend that he agreed to a deal today...not finalized yet but should be in camp tomorrow.
Missing a few days is no big deal if he has the work ethic to make up for it, which I think he does. You can't judge a player on financial negotiations, its just business and he probably takes his cues from his agent.

Eugene Parker also represents Dez Bryant and he was the first 1st rounder to sign so don't put all the blame on Parker. This had greedy written all over it. Thank God it's done though. Calvin Johnson held out 8 days in training camp. I was thinking Suh was going to beat that.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/20 ... l_wit.html5 years, 68 million, 40 guaranteed.
Finally, thank goodness. Im excited to see him in camp now. I would love to really see him show up motivated tomorrow and wow the people there. Show em all that you are going to earn every penny and more of that contract, ya know? Put all this behind us and start fresh on the 2010-11 Lions

Its not a bad deal, basically just glad it finally got done. Although, the salary is close to what I guessed for a 6-year deal above.....oh well, its not my money.

It has a MAX value of $68 million.... it's really a $60M/5 yr deal which is more than fair on Suhs part considering McCoy got $63M over 5 years. He could have held out for alot more. If he was willing to take less than McCoy, what were the Lions offering?

I think Suh came in with the best of intentions, but a little naive as to the business aspect of the game. I'm sure he fully intended to not sit out like he promised, but then got caught up following the advice of his agent. His promise to not sit out might have even weakened his side's bargaining stance and delayed a fair deal. Is it too much money? Yes, but so are practically all rookies. Like has been mentioned, it's not a great deal relative to the 1st and 3rd picks. If I were to guess, I'd say Suh finally just demanded that his agent end it because he seems like a guy who wants to put his best foot forward and he was already getting Lions fans and at least one teammate (Dominic Raiola) mad.

He never promised not to hold out, he said he didn't want to hold out and wanted to be in camp. I don't know where this promise talk started, but its on every Lion board.

I was just blindly regurgitating what I read here, so it's partially my fault.

Correct, he did not promise, that was a misspeak on my part.
“I’m not a guy that likes to be a part of drama,” Suh said. “I definitely don’t want to hold out.”
http://theindependent.com/articles/2010 ... 941302.txtMy bad on my poor wording, but he was clear in that he didnt want to go this route

Like I said before, as long as he performs well nobody is going to care if he held out for a few days. You have to seperate the business from the personal in football. Rookies should be happy to get a few million in an ideal world, but based on the precedent set by other players, he deserved to get what he got and he should have fought for it if he was being lowballed. But who knows who was trying to take advantage of who in contract negotiations.

"It was a tough time. Obviously, I wanted to be in camp on time as I said previously. That's what I said," Suh said Wednesday. "Unfortunately, I wasn't, so I apologize for that.
"As we all know, it's a business and my agents did a great job of taking care of that for me because that's what I hired them for. They did everything I asked and took care of it the way I wanted it taken care of. That's beyond the point now. I'm in camp now and I'm excited to be here.''

It's good to see that it was completed. And I must say that I am very pleased with the results. Aside from all rookie contracts being ridiculous, this seems like a good deal. He ended up signing for less than McCoy and he didn't upstage Stafford in the process. I was thinking the holdout would end with him getting something upwards of 45m guaranteed, which bothered me considerably, but now seeing the results, I have to apologize.
Now get in camp Mr. Suh and prove us all that you deserve every last dollar you just got paid!
