53-man roster isn't the end of the road," he said. "There's going to be guys we cut, or that get cut from other teams, that are going to come back and play football for us. I think there were 17, 18, maybe 19 guys that were cut last year, either by us or somebody else, that played in games for us last year."

Actually, 28 players were picked up off waiver or free-agency claims by the Lions after cut-down day. So, for sure, filling roster spots is a fluid endeavor, and it doesn't end at the 6 p.m. deadline today

the Lions could make several waiver claims, meaning those players at the bottom of the roster could only be Lions for 24 to 48 hours.

The Lions just traded TE Dan Gronkowski for Alphonso Smith. I don't know any more about him than what's in the wiretap, but we just traded away a 2009 7th round pick for a 2009 2nd round pick. Hopefully Alphonso Smith can provide some depth in the defensive backfield and find his game.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

^ Supposedly the draft pick is a conditional 7th that the Broncos only get if the Lions end up over .500. Not likly to happen. It's mostly player for player. Great trade for Detroit. :D

I cannot believe Dre Bly got cut. He was arguably one of our best DBs. I thought he was a lock for the team. I'm sad to see Hauschka get cut. I liked the kid. :(

Oh well, I'm waiting to see who Mayhew gets off waivers.

The season can't get here fast enough :D

First surprise.....Lions claim Spencer Havner TE Packers

Jaguars claimed DT Landon Cohen off waivers from the Lions.
Cohen will provide depth along the Jaguars' defensive line

The Lions' practice squad is starting to take shape, as well. Receivers Tim Toone and Michael Moore, defensive tackle Rob Calloway, defensive back Paul Pratt and linebacker Caleb Campbell have been signed back.

Teams can keep eight players on the practice squad

Lions also claimed WR Stefan Logan from Pittsburgh who is a KR/PR specialist. We cut LB Rocky Boiman to get him on the roster. Solid move IMO. I like both claims.

I'd still like to see Mayhew Cut Wendling for a CB. We'll see though.

Thank god we cut Erik King and Ko Simpson..they were beyond awful. The Bly cut surprises me, and im glad some guys like Toone and Campbell went to the practice squad

Liq..any way you want to do a big update in the roster thread taking all this action into account. The DB situation im a bit lost on now. Is it going to go Houston/Wade/Smith or am i forgetting somebody?

^ No problem. But Havner is going to be playing LB for us according to the Lions. He's also good in ST. He can fill in at TE and FB as well though. Porbably how he got his Duct Tape nickname. Heller is still our #3 TE.

I'll update things now.
