Congrats to the big fella, he deserved it. Just imagine how good he'd be if he didn't play injured all season long.

The All-Pro elected to have surgery on his right shoulder after the season on Jan. 10, precluding him from being able to play in the game. Interestingly, Suh told the Portland Tribune the injury is one he originally suffered as a senior at Nebraska.

Considering he was a Pro Bowl starter as a rookie, it would have been a crime if anyone else had won it.

He just might be the best defensive rookie ever. Let's hope he doesn't get complacent like Jevon Kearse did...

Hey Iceness,
I know this is kind of off topic, but do you think Kearse got complacent in his career after being such a great player so young in his career or was it that he was undersized and when teams threw an extra block against him that he wasn't able to be as effective as he was before?

I hope that Suh continues to build off of his great rookie season. Even though the Lions got off to a rough start again this year, the games were a lot of fun to watch just to see him make big plays.

Some of Kearse's issues were that he got hurt and his knee never got right. But teams figured out they could chip him with a TE and he never developed an effective counter to it. He was still a quality player for a few years, just not an impact guy. He was never a big practice worker, not even during his workouts and training leading into the draft.

I'm very excited by Suh's potential. Detroit hasn't had an elite talent since Barry Sanders, and even with Barry there was always a credible argument that somebody else (Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis) was better. Suh can be the unquestioned dominant defensive tackle in the game as soon as next season. He was just warming up in 2010!
