And once again the Lions will not have a RB that can gain more than two yards between the tackles. My 8-8 forecast is looking cloudier by the day.

Who is out there that the Lions can get? Tell me Ricky Williams isn't the Lions best option.

He is allegedly signing with the Ravens today.

Top free agents available:
Kevin Smith, whom the Lions released
Kenneth Darby
Mike Bell
Jerome Harrison
Mike Hart
Dominic Rhodes
Tiki Barber

Just count on Mo Morris being the #2 once he is actually healthy enough to play, and Felton getting more chances to run in short yardage. Probably keeps Aaron Brown on the team and maybe he takes advantage.

Of those I listed Mike Hart is the best option for the Lions IMO. Rhodes wouldn't be bad either.

Yeah Mike Hart is the best option of all UFAs for now, but I think the best option would be somebody who is already on a roster now that gets cut later on. Or maybe Michael Bush can be had cheap, sounded like Oakland might be willing to part with him. It doesn't really matter to me, tbh I would rather trade Best away at this point, along with every other RB we have, and play the waiver wire all year on RBs. What other strategies do we have to pickup multiple future keepers on the cheap? If we did things my way the last 5 years, we would already be the best team in football and have a lot more youth to show for it than we even have now!

We just aren't ready for a RB yet, let alone two high value RBs, and so we should cash them out, shore up the rest of the positions, and top off RB later. Or we could have done the much better strategy of not using picks on RBs before we were ready and then we would have a whole lot more to show for it than to do salvage trades at this point.

I'd take Bell or Hart. Stupid Lions should've signed Ronnie Brown a few weeks ago. He would;ve been better than LeShoure anyways.

It appears Ricky Williams is off the market as a possible replacement for Mikel Leshoure in the Lions' backfield.

The veteran running back signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, a source told ESPN.

From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110808/SPO ... z1UTnZedfy

Some wonder if Leshoure's injury increases the odds that Aaron Brown could stick on the roster. While Brown may have more time to prove himself, Miller doubts he's the answer.

Ronnie Brown signed with the Eagles. And to Kellmellus above you, yeah perhaps Aaron Brown makes the roster. He should make the team. I mean, I didn't ask them to draft this guy, I wouldn't have drafted that guy, but they did, so to me that means he should make the team and they should turn him into a star player or at least a qualified useful player for the long-term, otherwise what was the point? So I'd like to see them capitalize on Aaron Brown, or I'm going to be pissed if he doesn't pan out since it made no sense to me. So the only justification for them to still have drafted him that I can qualify is if they were unusually and exceptionally confident they had a keeper. Now's the time to prove it.

Well they needed to spend a draft pick after failing to take my advice to simply take the low cost and free Blount. I would have Blount now, and DaQuan Bowers to replace Turk. That's 2 possibly major star upgrades and I still save money by using a roster spot and a key one on a cheap UDFA.

Just sign Mike Bell. Mo Morris isn't a terrible RB2

We get it. We should have gotten Blount. Any possible way we could move on?

Yeah, if Mayhew doesn't make any further mistakes, then I will stop complaining about them. Or when I get the job as GM, then we can move on as I wouldn't have anything to worry about as I would then be confident that our team is doing everything we can to make the best team we can.

Jerome Harrison at Detroit Lions' practice facility this morning, report says
Harrison is the Cleveland Browns' single-game rushing leader, having rushed for 286 yards against Kansas City on Dec. 20, 2009, breaking Jim Brown's franchise record.

Lions signed RB Jerome Harrison, formerly of the Eagles.
At 5'9/205, Harrison is more of a shifty speed back than the power complement the Lions were seeking for Jahvid Best. But Harrison was the best free agent running back left on the market, fits in coordinator Scott Linehan's system as a pass-catcher and is talented enough to spell Best on early downs. Best still projects to receive 15-18 touches per game and the goal-line job remains up for grabs. Harrison is a solid handcuff.

Harrison and Bell were traded for one another last year. Now they get to fight it out for the same roster spot.

Mike Hart might have had some health concerns anyway. It would have been a nice bonus to possibly get the value of Hart's ability to hold onto the ball, cause when adding a non-descript player, it's hard to find a lot of value if that player doesn't have at least one category where he excels relative to top players. i.e. if we had a 3rd QB who just happened to be the fastest runner of all QBs and is potential to be the best rushing QB, then that's a strategic new way to attack a team by having that dimensional weapon that other teams can't create for themselves, and that's worth something in addition to the player serving as insurance.

So the question becomes, what is Jerome's #1 best attribute to offer? Cause I don't really know much about him offhand.

I like the Jerome Harrison add, he seems to do well when given an opportunity and was productive as a backup to McCoy last year. And I'm sure we all remember his three game madness two years ago.
