Post#1 » by ajaX82 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 7:01 pm

We don't need a thread for all four probably, but discuss the four here

I'd rather Matty only play one series or two keep him good and healthy. I don't need to see him look good, I just don't want to see him get hit.

I heard it was on at 8 but 2 hour delay in Grand Rapids, but I don't know for sure. I am just going to tune in at 8 and assume it's on then, cause that's what my tv guide says, and it only lies once in a while.

NFL Network is showing it Sunday night 2AM CDT

I like that the Lions and Bengals always play in the preseason, good way to evaluate progress with context.

Lions 24-3 half all 3 QB looking good, still need better RB runs.C houston with INT.

so far our running game is looking real bad.

The final spots at every defensive position are going to be nail biters 'til the end.

"Best being looked at on the sidelines"... gee that didn't take long. Can we please tell him this is not the SB and he doesn't have to sell out his body on every single play?

Also, nice ST hit by Erik Coleman. The announcer gave the credit to Anthony Madison, he was in position and he set up that hit, but Coleman is the guy that delivered the cool contact hit.

Jerome Harrison is a nice RB and is better than bell , harrison will make the team.i like his vision and cut backs and has some speed.Bell needs to be cut or traded for a 7th.

Bell shouldn't be in the NFL on any team imo, and Vasher has made lots of little mistakes in this game, what was he defending on that last run play? He illogically vacated his position and left the whole field open. Although it's sometimes hard to know when a player screws up because I don't like Gunther's defensive scheme in addition to the way he teaches the players and instructs them on what to do. I think it's a flawed system that is also not even being properly taught and implemented on top of that.

EDIT: Not sure what happened on that fumble, but it was hilarious for the announcer to say that Harrison "knew it right away", lol you think? And on that big TD run by CLE I'm just making sure that was Vasher, I just saw Pratt make a play #36, which looks like a #30, so if anybody can confirm if it was Vasher on that play that would be helpful. Stovall and Hughes look interesting again, and it's fun watching Stanton play!

Nice tattoo by Cobrani Mixon to create that fumble and sharp TD pass by Stanton.

Zac never had a chance. His only shot is if there is a trade or injury. I highly doubt that Schwartz would look him in the eye and tell him he has a legit chance to compete for a job. He knows the deal.

"Hey Zac, you aren't going to make our team in the absence of a trade or injury. But don't let that discourage you. You are auditioning for the rest of the league and just cause we don't have a roster spot, doesn't mean that there isn't a ton of other teams that might want to snatch you up as their 3rd man, maybe somebody can use you as a 2nd man even. But either way we want you here because you are our potential go-to guy as soon as somebody gets hurt, and if you impress then we would explore trade options even to free up a spot and improve the team. You give us a great chance to make our team better and we need you to deliver if you can do it. And if not, we want to keep you on our team if it's possible, cause we know it's a matter of time before somebody goes down and we're hoping you will give us a shot cause we are the ones that want you the most and we're investing in you the most cause we appreciate you and respect you and we hope that you consider joining us or being a part of our PS."

Haven't really seen enough of him to say for sure, but I wouldn't expect to keep him, but I would like to. If it was up to me I would trade every single RB on the team if I could. If Ian has the least trade value then poof I have a job for him and two other waiver wire schmucks. I wouldn't invest jack squat into the RB position until I have fixed other major key needs that would be my focus. RBs have too short of a life span and there's too much work to be done that it didn't make sense to me to draft Best when we did, or Leshoure, or Brown, or to acquire Morris. All of those investments were bad timing, not because I don't like those players, but because there were better paths to take and they didn't fit into the master plan for maximum team improvement.

So Ian is up for trade for anything I can get, as is every single other RB except for Best and Leshoure who I would only trade for more than what they are worth to me, which is probably less than what most people would say. Best also is a strong candidate to bust out later with injury problems and I would be salivating to trade him for market value knowing I can exercise a hidden bonus if the cards of fate do indeed result in an injury, like they often do with RBs, such as Leshoure. It's hard to stay healthy and that risk is a liability and most GMs don't factor that into the evaluation correctly, thus there is a profit to be had by buying/selling the RB market aggressively and logically. You already know that my RB group would be Blount/Woodhead/BLANK, and none of those 2 RBs would have cost ANYTHING to get, all of that money and draft value and trade material would have juiced us elsewhere. It's an easy game if you take the logical path and look at the big picture and the long-term picture.

Which inconveniently is this franchise's #1 greatest flaw. :(

Ugly game vs. the Browns but it showed a few things:
--Stafford is going to be great if he can stay on the field.

--The WR spot is deep, probably deeper than anyone thought. Stovall was open on nearly every play. Pettigrew looked good flexed out and that is a positive wrinkle.

--The running game is going to be lousy. Best got dinged yet again. Johnson isn't someone who can make guys miss. The interior OL run blocking is substandard. The plays take too long to develop.

--The linebackers are read and react chasers and not playmakers. It's okay if the guys in front of and behind them are making plays. Last night they weren't and they got lit up. Safety play was consistently terrible, including Delmas in what little I saw of him. Looking more and more like his rookie success isn't coming back. Honestly I had to double-check and make sure he was actually playing.

--Stanton looked very composed and in control in leading the comeback. The Browns defense went vanilla though and their defensive depth makes the Lions look great.
