Injury report on lions, list updates
Kevin smith -x-ray negative
Chris Houston went down with injuries and Brandon McDonald
Louis Delmas in the first half to injury
Defensive end Lawrence Jackson (thigh) did not play against the Packers. He had been listed as doubtful on Wednesday’s injury report.
However defensive end Willie Young (ankle) and DT Corey Williams (calf) who were both questionable were active.
Running back Jahvid Best (concussion) and punter Ryan Donahue (quad) were declared out on Wednesday.
With the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, Lions coach Jim Schwartz may not have left two cornerbacks -- Alphonso Smith and Don Carey inactive against Green Bay
Suh may be suspended and miss games

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
We might have seen the last of Jahvid Best. People close to him are begging him to call it a career. That was concussion #4 or #5, depending on who you ask. Two of them have been severe enough to cause lingering effects for months. I hope he can come back, but not at the price of long-term brain damage. See: Al Toon.

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
Part of the reason why I like to take RBs last to fill in team needs, because that's the easiest one to get cheap huge upside prospects, yet has a lot of risk and volatility and expense with unfavorable time components associated with it. We invested double heavy there with Best and Leshoure, and we could have gone empty with those 2 big buckets of resources and seriously bolstered other areas of the team. Ironically we might have picked up for free a pair of guys that could compete to be just as good if not better than them at a lower cost too; at least the odds to find those replacements seemed better to me than from the perspective of other positional choices. RBs are a dime a dozen, but quality OL and DEF players are hard to find and you have to nab them strategically to dominate in this league.

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
The Detroit Lions recycled another familiar face at running back today, re-signing running back Aaron Brown and officially placing Jahvid Best on season-ending injured reserve.

Aaron Brown could do a decent job as a change of pace/third down back catching passes out of the backfield and taking a draw or two

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
Aaron Brown was cut before the season, he shouldn't be back. If he wasn't good enough to make our team, then he's not good enough to make it now. The Lions don't even know how to stay consistent with their own opinions at this point, let alone the facts and fundamentals of the game.
i for one might have even had Aaron Brown as the starter entering the season, but that's only because somebody has to start after all of the RBs are traded and you have none left. I don't like the Lions' decision-making process on how they go about making coaching and player personnel choices. It just doesn't make sense, and you can't look at this team from afar and understand what they are trying to do. If the objective is to win the SB, then how do we explain all of these bad choices, mistakes, and failing on very basic fundamentals over and over again. What do they do during the rest of the hours of the week that aren't between 1-4 pm? I don't get what they spend all this time doing if they aren't spending this time to employ solutions that are clearly obviously available. I want to know their justification for why they do everything that they do, they owe us that if they aren't going to get the job done.

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
They placed punter Ryan Donahue (quad) on injured reserve, ending his season. Veteran Ben Graham will handle the punting the rest of the season.
The Lions signed rookie safety Ricardo Silva off the practice squad. That move was made because starting free safety Louis Delmas is expected to miss the next two games with a knee injury.

Bummer about Delmas, he has actually been covering better recently. Speivey will have to raise his game. He did pretty well on Finley last week.
Weren't some of y'all big-time Silva fans?

Re: Injury report on lions, list updates
Yea but not now I'm not.
I didn't want to resort to Silva because of an injury after we are already in lousy position for a playoff run, as I think we should be challenging for the division and home field advantage, and right now we are looking really good to miss out on the playoffs completely. We now have less time for him to pan out and sell himself as a future starter or trade bait; both options would have had a more likely convertible upside if we gave him 17 weeks to play and develop. Plus, he was a credible gamble and would have allowed us the flexibility to trade Delmas (and all of our Safeties perhaps) for another position which now we can't do as well. And our ability to be comfortable with skipping out on Safety in the 1st round is also a privilege that is less likely than before.

The Lions also signed defensive end Keyunta Dawson with the roster exemption available with the suspension to Ndamukong Suh. Dawson, who spent four seasons with the Colts from 2007-2010, was with the Lions in training camp and cut on Sept. 3.
