Victory achieved. Good game by the Lions, they didn't totally collapse in the second half like normal, I'm hoping it wasn't just because they were playing Oakland (although I fear it was).

Nice game by the guys. CJ with a TD really gets me excited. The offense looked real good and the D wasnt too bad.
9 more wins to go to prove Kitna is a god!

I'm no more concerned about the Lions after this game than I was to start the season. The biggest concern is the strength of the defense. The offense looked good almost the entire game with a couple mistakes here and there. The defense looked tired to start the second half and then really stepped up in the final 5 minutes to seal the victory. Regardless it was good to see the Lions start the season with a win. If we can get a win next week against Minnesota the Lions could really build some confidence in themselves as a team and that could only help our overall chances to have a decent season.

I only caught bits and pieces, how did the secondary look?

It was a good game. Those false starts were killing me. But our guys pulled out a "W" and I am excited about the season.

I just wish they wouldn't keep rotating CJ in and out of the offense. Leave him in there and let's see what he can do.
Minnesota next week.

We had 5 guys with at least 4 receptions and there is something to be said for being able to spread the ball around. But yeah, I'm looking forward to letting CJ loose and seeing what he can do.

They looked ok at times coming up and making tackles but it seems like they missed a lot of tackles and the Raiders were picking up 5 yards on every short pass play they attempted. Bryant looked really good when he came up and knocked the ball away from one of Oaklands WRs leading to an interception that later resulted in CJs first career TD. Overall I would say there weren't terrible, but its a guarantee that our offense is going to have to score TDs if we want to have a successful season.

Man the passing game looked really really good.
If you could take away that one bonehead interception in the end zone then I'd give Kitna and A+ for the game.
Our top 4 WR's are going to give teams fits all season if they can stay healthy.
Defensively we looked really good in stretches, but also saw some weaknesses.
Overall it feels great to start off a season with a road win, there's been so few these past 5-6 years.

If we can go 3-2 going into the bye and get KJ back at 90% we should be on pace for the Gurankitna.

Yep. Remember, Oakland had the #1 pass defense in the league last year. If the Lions can put up that kind of passing game against Oakland they should be able to do it against almost anyone. Kitna even looked good when he was flushed from the pocket, and given the Lions' offensive line, that's a good sign. 'Cause he's gonna get flushed. A lot.
The defense is another story. Rogers and Redding have to have monster years to make up for the deficiencies in the secondary.
But there were some very encouraging things about the game, as have been mentioned. Seeing some points on the board and a second half surge for the win was nice.

Defensive Line was absolutely dominant. Hard to get excited about whipping up on the worst OL in the league, but DeWayne White was far better than I expected. Nice to see a Lion force some turnovers and instigate chaos. Rogers looked focused and motivated to get his name back in the "Best DT in the league" conversation where he rightly belongs.
There's not a team in the league that can cover Shaun McDonald as the #4 WR in this offense. The Raiders have a very good pair of CBs and a pretty good pair of safeties but Kitna just picked them apart. How many times was the WR open by at least 5 yards all around him--it was beautiful! I thought Bell ran well, found a comfort level following Mulitalo, who is a HUGE upgrade at G over DeMulling/fill-in o' the week.
All the happiness ends if the Lions blow a winnable home opener against the Vikings, who have a fantastic defense and great RB but the worst QB/WR package in the NFL. The OL has to control the outside pass rush or else it's going to be a long, boring game.

Exactly what I was going to say. Word for word. You just be me to it. Honest.

I was at the game, and I even had my Lions jersey on the whole time. Only saw a few others in the entire stadium - not a friendly place to wear your colors. Anyway, Lions looked solid - I always got the feeling we could score as needed. I think the Oakland D is good, we just have a better offense.
Beat Minnesota and we're 2-0...

I think the offensive line played better, over the course of the full game, than the defensive line. It's rare to see an offensive lineman make a game altering individual play (like Rogers and the new DE from Tampa whose name I'm presently forgetting did..), but they were consistent in keeping the pressure off Kitna. We also had quite a good average gain per rush. We got gashed in the third quarter on the ground when Rogers was rested. As he goes, so goes our defense. I shudder to think of what the Vikings will do on the ground when he's not on the field. All in all though, winning is a good thing and, for the first time since Barry, the Lions are truly fun to watch!
