Brandon Marshall???

Post#1 » by Bartender » Thu Sep 3, 2009 1:11 am

Does anybody else agree that we should give it a shot to get Marshall?

A Johnson / Marshall combination could be deadly and our NO2 receiver options are kind of shaky at the moment.

I think he could be great with CJ, but what do we give up to get him?

The Jets are "seriously exploring" Marshall according to a couple of guys on the Jets beat. I'm not sure if anything will come out of it but if the Jets do trade for Marshall I can almost guarantee it'll be based around a conditional pick.

***Update***
The Jets are willing to offer a third round pick Brandon Marshall.

Source: Broncos Want Jets LB In Deal For Marshall
3rd September, 2009 - 8:36 am
ESPN - If the Broncos trade Brandon Marshall to the Jets, they want linebacker David Harris involved in the deal, according to sources.

There have been no indications that New York will trade Harris, who led the team in tackles back in 2007.

Denver is reportedly looking for an impact player and a future draft pick in any deal for the suspended wide receiver.

According to reports out of Denver, they haven't had any trade talks with NJ and are looking closely into what the Jets are putting out there, it might be considered tampering.

We really don't need another QB. We have potentially 4 that could be on the roster. I'd like another receiver and an upgrade at CB.

I'd like a backup QB that can run away from pressure.

another WR and CB upgrade are big issues though.

^ I'll give up my ideas when you give up trying to claim to be a sports fan when you obviously aren't that smart about sports.

Headcase Brandon Marshall? So because he's tired of Josh McDaniels (Not the first or last Bronco to be pissed off at the drama queen) suddenly he's a headcase? Have you heard of Marshall before this offseason? I doubt it by that reply of yours.

I doubt he knows ANYTHING about the Lions if he thinks we have enough wide receivers.
We don't have NEARLY enough receivers.. or good ones at least.

I don't get it either. We have ONE great receiver and two or three that could be productive. If you can get an upgrade, you do it, period.

I definitely agree with the reasons for why we should not want Marshall, as it's pretty obvious that he has some ugly baggage to bring to the team for both on and off the field matters. That being said, he's actually just about the #1 guy in the NFL that is not a Lion that I would like to be a Lion. And the reason for that is because his ratio of how good he is as a football player compared to the value or cost to acquire him has a potentially large margin to profit from beyond that of everybody else. I like to buy low and sell high.

Sure, BM might not make us a "classy" team, but I don't play for class, I play to win. That doesn't mean I intentionally do things that are not classy or that I disrespect the value of intangibles like that, it just means that I'm not going to hinder a team's ability to win on account for an intangible that only makes people feel good when in fact it doesn't make the number in the wins column grow to it's absolutely fullest potential. My heart and my mind and my passion are about figuring out ways for the Lions to win games, at any cost, and I don't care about the intangibles of having "classy" people on the team at the expense of my percentage probability to win games. To me, winning at football is like winning a war, would you like to replace the nastiest meanest guys on the front lines with some church ushers? That's not how I go to war, I go to war to obliterate the enemy with as much of a bloody massacre as I possibly can. Now I've never even been in a physical fight myself, "war" is really an analogy for "games" in how I approach them in effort to destroy my opponent. "Class" is something NICE to have if you already have a winning team and you want to shoot for something special that is convenient and possible to coexist with maximum winning potential, but I'd rather win without classy players than to lose with classy players, as I don't put myself in a position of judging morality or defining what that is worth, that's not my job, I'll leave that to the philosophers and the pundits to digress into. I'm only concerned with winning football games, and BM can help us do that as well as any team in the NFL.

Now, that being said, the only way I would trade for him would be first to secure a few IFs, such as gaining a long contract agreement that isn't a break-the-bank type of deal, and getting on the same page with him and his agent as to the inner-workings and cause of his unhappiness and determining the precise details and numbers both intangible and tangible of what it would take to SECURE OR BUY his loyalty and effort. I don't believe that those last things would be too difficult to arrive at when we can give him the one thing no other team so far has done, and that is to give him many millions of dollars and trust and faith and respect. From his point of view nobody has yet to give him that, thus he's just giving back what people are giving to him, and no matter how much we may disagree with his tactics or go ahhhh at the ugliness of his tactics, there is actually some logic behind his crappy behavior. I don't care how much of a prick some guy is, but you can't play in the NFL and get multiple 100+ catch seasons and look as good as he did unless you aren't working hard to be in shape and cultivating your craft with a high degree of skill and ability and effort. He is capable of doing things that result in high rewards, and regardless of the Broncos position, they have not catered to him in such a way that he approves, and that was a choice they made. I'm not making that same choice, BM can play on my team, I have room for him on my roster and I want him here and I will invest in him and he will buy what I'm selling and respect me for my ideals that revolve around winning and doing what it takes to empower him. Give me the contract numbers I want and a reasonable trade offer for me to rip you off on giving you less value in return and you have yourself a deal Mr. Bowlen.

Now I just need to hire a PI to take hidden camera footage of Ryan Clady giving lip to some parking attendant or something and then figuring out how to swipe him because the Broncos don't want him on their team on account of him not being a nice mild-mannered guy.

Lions is the last team in the NFL that should be worried about Class. We have been the worst team of the decade, we have horrible management and ownership, and we are located in Detroit. Why do we have to worry about 'class'?

****, if Pacman Jones becomes available for another chance, Detroit better fuucking take it.

^ I disagree, the best thing Mayhew did when he took over was get rid of the "bad apples" bringing down the team. "Class" should be taken into account, but should not be the be all, end all of evaluating players.

But Marshall is hardly a classless guy. He's in a bad situation and has said as much. A change of scenery would do him good. But as of right now, Denver hasn't made it known that he's available.
