Re: Around the League
Russell finally benched, than named starter for next week. Gotta love the Raiders
And for you numbers fellas, going into this weekend Sanchez was officially behind Stafford in passer rating, completion percentage and picks. just an FYI.
Saints....still good. Bucs and Rams...still very bad

Re: Around the League
The Raiders are at least doing the right thing though. If they don't make the playoffs this year, they will at least go into next year with a LOT of information and insight as to what their big investment in their QB is worth by simply playing him as much as they can now. It would be convenient to go back in time and change the pick, but since they can't, the next best thing is to play him and evaluate.
It'll be interesting to see what SF does, cause Smith had a big game this week. In my opinion they were nuts for benching him. He was also a high pick, and he hasn't had any time lately. He missed all of last year and played in only half the games this year. They need a franchise QB, and Smith COULD possibly be the guy. They need to find out and stop dillydallying around with mediocre low profile prospects like a Shaun Hill. It's just an illogical way to play the game. You either hit the jackpot with your QB or you don't, if you find out you don't, THEN move on, but don't waste time and waffle around in self-confusion, that's no way to manage a franchise. Heck, Shaun Hill fumbles almost as much as Daunte Culpepper!

Apparently the chiefs are saying goodbye to Larry Johnson.
Smart move. Probably should have happened sooner.

LJ can still be a great RB if he had an oline to give him a second to get his feet moving. I still think he's better than Brandon Jacobs. He's just as strong and faster.

And the Cheifs claimed him. It might have been nice, but he just hasn't been the same player in years now.
Edgerrin James has been released. No the Lions shouldn't sign him.

Re: Around the League
Tampa Bay just snagged CB MIke Mickens who was one of the few remaining guys I liked. Another blown opportunity for the Lions to get a CB for the future.

Lions added Jason David. Hes only 5'8", but he seems pretty good.

Hasn't played this season for whatever reason, so thats a mild concern.

Re: Around the League
Not me, I hate the move, passionately. I don't like any of our CBs and none of them should be on the roster imo. I wanted Mike Mickens before he just got scooped up, as well as other CBs that were snagged off the waiver wire between day 1 and present day. None of the CBs on this team have a future. They have all proven to be substandard players throughout their careers, and they are just getting older with still no upside. It's the EXACT opposite of the type of players we should be going for if we want to turn this team around. Mediocre and substandard veterans will crush this team to defeat for future years, and the future is the one damn thing left that we still have hope for, and we are suffocating our future EVERY SINGLE DAY that passes without action to alleviate the damage.

Re: Around the League
We will not get a 'player for the future' off waivers. We just won't. They are not that good and their ceiling is extremely low. That's why they are on waivers! Drafts and FA is the only way to get franchise players. Waiver pick ups will only be good for depth.

Re: Around the League
It's actually a mathematical lock for us to get multiple players of the future off the wire.

Tampa beats the Pack somehow....with Josh Freeman leading the charge. 1st overall pick is within our grasp!

Larry Johnson released.
I wouldn't mind grabbing him actually. We need a power back to handle 3rd downs and redzones. We are horrible in those aspects and he still has some gas in the tank.

And our o-line is a lot better then K-City's so he might like Detroit.

Re: Around the League
Larry Johnson I wouldn't honestly mind him becoming a Lion, but this seems a lot like something the Patriots would do.
Kendall Simmons got cut, I would take a look at him if I ran the Lions. Injury issues, but I would still take a look.

Re: Around the League
Simmons would be a smart move. He's a decent Guard. Played with good teams.
LJ makes the most sense in Chicago, Arizona, and NE (be like Corey Dillon was to them).
I'd love to see him in NE. He could honestly finish out with 6 or 7 TD's in the last 8 games if he was in NE. With their passing game and top notch o-line, he can cause some serious damage and put NE over the top.

I just wanted to point out Mark Sanchez's day so far: 2-9, 15 yards, 2 picks.
The Sanchez v. Stafford debate should be over after today imo
