2009 Lions defense has taken a step forward.
The linebacker play has been much improved.

The defensive line has generated an adequate amount of pressure and has played effectively against the run.
But the secondary has been an other issue. The completely revamped unit hasn't lived up its offseason billing
The defense is 30th against the pass, allowing an average of 279 yards through three games. It's been so bad that opposing quarterbacks are completing 75 percent of their passes and have an efficiency rating of 123.7.

(My only solution to this is blitz 1 differant LB player every down to get a rush on the QB making him throw early and unsettling him,even getting some sacks.)
bottom line we have to take pressure off our db,s because now every team knows our weekness and will go after our secondary.

P.s. must make Ko Simpson a starter he is very good,and a great trade by detroit
In his first snap, Simpson intercepted Jason Campbell when he stepped in front of a pass intended for Santana Moss.
Simpson has not been told he is starting but he said he has been practicing with the first-team defense this week. He said he feels up to speed on the defense and would be comfortable starting

Another way to improve the backfield is to replace them

White recorded 68 tackles and intercepted a pass for the Bengals last season. He is regarded as a ferocious hitter who is suspect in coverage. In that regard, he is similar to Roy Williams, the former Pro Bowl safety for the Cowboys who requested his release and signed with Cincinnati in May.

The Pontiac Silverdome, home of the Detroit Lions from 1975 until 2002, will be sold next month to the highest bidder, no matter the bid, as the cash-strapped city looks to offload the $1.5-million annual upkeep costs at the empty facility.

Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams & Williams is conducting the auction and accepting sealed bids through 4 p.m. Nov. 12. After that, the city has the option of inviting the top five bidders back for a live auction Nov. 16. Would-be bidders can tour the facility by appointment and they must pony up a $250,000 deposit -- to show they are serious -- but there is no minimum bid.

Team has been **** for years, you can't fix it in one offseason. I like how they grab up a guy like Marvin White and the countless young players they brought in during the offseason to help them out. In the past, correct me if I'm wrong, they would only grab up "end of their career" types to help them out after the major free agent push.

IMO the biggest problem is the skill level of the OL and DL. The Lions do not control the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball. You can mask some of that with offensive formations and defensive blitzes, but the team needs talented bulk on both lines.

I would draft the best DL available, DE or DT doesn't matter. The OL is ahead of the DL with young guys like Cherilus, Ramirez, Peterman. The defense has to get fixed first anyways. The back seven looks a lot better and that should sustain. Get a Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy or Marvin Austin with the 1st round pick. Use another high pick on an athletic OT or find one in free agency. Take a developmental center later on.
