oct-11 1:00 Pittsburg Steelers @ Detroit Lions
Key to Pittsburg game score early and offen do not let up in second half like what happened in 2 other games.Pittsburg lost both road games this year, advantage lions
In the past 3 games the Lions have outscored their opponents in the first half, 44-28, but have been outscored in the second half, 61-12. If i was betting i would bet heavy $$$$$$$$ on the other team in the second half easy money.
ESPN:Reported Sunday evening that Stafford’s injury was a dislocated kneecap that popped back in while he was on the sideline, an injury that could cost him a game or two.
Stafford had a similar injury to the same knee before his senior season in high school and missed a couple of games. He needed surgery after a horseplay incident in preseason training. A teammate tackled him while they were using a slip-and-slide to cool off after running
He was noncommittal when asked if this injury was similar: “I don’t know. We’ll see. They’ve got to check it all out.”
And he gave the same answer when asked if he thought he could play Sunday against Pittsburgh: “I don’t know. We’ll see
P.s. Stafford may have a trick knee going out every so often,Culpepper to the rescue!Offence needs to score more points.

Re: oct-11 1:00 Steelers @ Detroit
C-pep didn't look very good in his spot time yesterday, and now our record has put us in a statistically remote chance of competing for the playoffs this year, so I don't see much of an upside to playing C-pep. I'm hoping and begging the Lions to play Drew Stanton. Now is the time to see what he can do, so that we can find out if he has trade value and to showcase him, as well as to determine whether we want him here for the long-term as a number 2. The Lions have to go with Stanton here, it's the right decision. If we want to salvage any chance of making the playoffs, we are going to need a studly QB performance, and Stanton gives us the best chance for a breakthrough performance, more than C-pep does.
We have nothing to gain by playing C-pep, and a CHANCE for a big gain if we play Drew.
Drew! Drew! Drew!

Glad to have you on board. It's the most logical play. I am betting against it though, cause Schwartz is going to have a tough time passing over the established vet after his classy approach, and he's going to most likely stick with a traditional decision. But if there's one coach in the NFL that would be able to resist the pressure to give in to the "PC" move, then Schwartz is the type of guy that I think might be able to make this kind of a strategic decision. If he plays Stanton I will have an even higher level of respect for him than I already do.

TSE..... i enjoy talking to you and you would make a good chess opponent it would be a battle ,
it's nice never to have to deal with mugslinging with you like the others.
Here's the latest on the lions:quarterback Matthew Stafford is day-to-day with a knee injury, coach Jim Schwartz said today.
Daunte Culpepper finished the bears game and was tentative and ineffective.
Derrick Williams will take over kickoff returns from fellow rookie Aaron Brown, who has struggled the past three games. Williams, a third-round pick, was drafted mostly for his special teams ability but struggled during the exhibition season.
I support this move hoping Derrick Williams will show people why he was the 3 pick by the lions and shine next game.

Well I am a former University of Michigan Chess Champion by the way, so maybe we should play sometime? (I also took 2nd place in the school 9-ball competition the same day while playing both events concurrently, lost to a ringer 35 year old grad student that had played pool more years than I have lived)
It is encouraging to see Schwartz make the move to DW, that's a no-brainer, and we need to find out what we have there. If he's great then great, if he's not, then great to know so we know where we stand for the future.
In terms of not mudslinging, well I'm an experienced internet chatter (tens of thousands of sports-related posts in my career), and I learned a long time ago that there isn't anything to gain from slinging mud. Instead of lashing out at others I just choose to talk highly of myself, which unfortunately does rile up the insecure and cause them to get lippy for some uncomfortable and wasteful conversations. I think it's kind of a subconscious litmus test for me to know who can talk intelligently without an irrationally emotional bias against me. I just like to weed out people that I feel are at an inadequate level of logic, because sound logic is a key ingredient in high-level conversation. Thus, I enjoy talking with you as well because you seem to get it that I know what I'm talking about, therefore that shows me that you are a great judge of logic and intelligence!

Wow what a surprise i was the top chess person at Edsel ford high school ,5 were in our group we competed against other schools used a time clock and did very well.As for shooting pool i grew up with a pool table in my parents basement and also became very very good at it,wish i had one now.But in reality i have'nt played either game in a while and would have to pratice before i played for real to get back up for speed or just play for fun.My parents had a 9 ball diamond wooded rack the we used on our 8 ft table(loved the 8ft table 1929 with deep leather pockets too bad it was lost in a basement flood long time ago).
I knew we had things in common.

Re: oct-11 1:00 Steelers @ Detroit
Oh ok. Yeah I don't play either game consistently anymore, just kind of lost interest in both over time. I never aspired to receive instruction in either game or take them that seriously, I was completely self-taught in each game. My favorite part of each game was really finding ways to defeat my opponent through use of strategy. I was a fairly good shot-maker at pool, but I found more enjoyment in screwing up my opponent's position than I did in the potting of balls. I had a friend of mine that was kind of the same way, we used to play 8 ball a lot and for both of us our favorite part of the game was right after the break, to breakdown the table in outside-of-the-box ways and figure out the optimal solution to the table. We gambled on every game we ever played, and we played with a 3 foul rule, so it was always our preferred methods to try and snooker each other into oblivion.
For chess, I typically prefer to play on a short clock, cause I'm fairly good at firing off quick moves, so I tend to like applying pressure to the opponent's clock time. I also enjoy playing wild chess with random pieces just to keep things a little more unpredictable and give the game a unique feel every time. It's a little different if you are playing high level opponents, but when playing novice or amateur players it just seems like the same standard openings every time and can get a little stale.

Update:Lions claim safety Marvin White from Dallas
The Detroit Lions have claimed safety Marvin White off waivers from Dallas and placed wide receiver Adam Jennings on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
White, listed at 6-feet-1 and 199 pounds, is a three-year NFL veteran. He played three games for the Cowboys this season, making two solo tackles. He spent the previous two seasons with Cincinnati, playing 27 games with 13 starts. He has one career interception. The Bengals drafted him in the fourth round out of Texas Christian in 2007.
The Lions released linebacker Darnell Bing and activated linebacker Zack Follett , who was on the practice squad. Follett figures to help on special teams.
Why is it players always tear it up after the leave us. Bodden is as off now one of the best CB in the AFC and now Alexander has a lights out game ?.
I think it's coaching our defence seems to teach cornerbacks for the lions over the years to play 10 yards in front of the reciever so when he catches the ball you can tackle them. Then the lions gets rid of our cornerbacks thinking that their no good and really it's the defence coaches teaching the wrong way to play off the recievers.
The reason i say that is because in the bears game the bears had a 3rd and 2 of course the cornerback was playing 10 yards back.Cutler hicked and quickly threw right to the reciever on the line and he ran straight for seven yards, end of story.

Re: oct-11 1:00 Pittsburg Steelers @ Detroit Lions
update:ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Matthew Stafford was held out of practice Wednesday by the Detroit Lions because of his injured right knee.
The Lions chose to not say anything more than that.
Detroit coach Jim Schwartz replied, `We'll see on Sunday,' when told the Pittsburgh Steelers said they expected to face Stafford.
Even if Stafford can't practice again on Thursday, Schwartz said that won't necessarily rule him out.
"I don't want to set any hard-set rules," he said.
Daunte Culpepper took snaps with the first-string offense while Stafford watched, wearing a red No. 9 jersey, a Tigers cap, black shorts and shoes.
"Daunte looked good — just like he did in the preseason," safety Louis Delmas said.
Culpepper was competing to be Detroit's starting quarterback until he needed eight stitches to close a cut on his foot after the team's third exhibition game.

Re: oct-11 1:00 Pittsburg Steelers @ Detroit Lions
I don't agree with the "start Stanton if Stafford is injured" line of thinking. Here's the way I see it;
Reasons to start Culpepper:
1)Schwartz thinks he is better and wants to hold onto Culpepper as Stafford's backup.
2)Schwartz wants Stanton as his backup, so he gives Culpepper snaps to show he can still play in the NFL, hoping to increase his trade value.
Reasons to start Stanton
1)Schwartz sees Stanton as Stafford's long term backup and sees no possible trade value in Culpepper, or thinks that Culpepper playing would decrease his value.
Since I assume Culpepper will want to at least try to start someone once more in his career, I'm guessing he's gone as soon as his contract is up. This isn't a playoff season, so there isn't much of a reason to keep him around if he's not going to be a long term solution. That's why I think you play him and try to up his trade value to a team with a tenuous QB situation. The only reason you play Stanton is if Culpepper simply doesn't have it anymore, and playing him would show that to the rest of the NFL.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Daunte Culpepper appears likely to start at quarterback for the Lions on Sunday against Pittsburgh. Matthew Stafford did not practice again today because of a right knee injury and said he hasn’t been running.Coach Jim Schwartz declined to give an update on Stafford, saying only that the official injury report would be available at 4 p.m., when the NFL requires teams to list players’ participation in practice.
Culpepper declined to talk to reporters, as he generally has all year.
“I have nothing to say until something changes from my perspective,” Culpepper said.
Lions-Steelers will be on local TV
Allen Park -- The Lions have sold out Sunday's home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, meaning the game will shown locally on CBS.
There were only 1,500 tickets available at 1 p.m. on Wednesday

Re: Marvin White...
This guy can really freaking lay the lumber, just a vicious hitter. The Bengals liked him a lot but he was expendable when Roy Wiliams came in. Similar type of player really, great hitter with good size at safety but a liability in coverage. He has trouble when he has more than one thing to do, and he doesn't offer much on special teams--which is why Dallas let him go.

Safeties that hit but can't cover = guys that I would rather let be somebody else's problem.
