2010 Draft
This isn't about prospects but about the actual draft.
Some rumors are swirling that San Fran is looking to move up in the top 3. They have two 1st round picks that should land in the teens.
If Suh is off the board, would you trade down for two mid-round 1sts and grab two first round talents instead of one?

Re: 2010 Draft
The only reason I bring this up is because Jimmy Clausen is having surgery on his foot and won't be healthy in time for the combine. He's going to throw and show off his arm, but this could really have the Rams decide on Suh.
Now I like McCoy and Berry, but we could wait 10 picks and draft two good 1st round guys instead and shore up another hole.

Re: 2010 Draft
I'd rather deal with the Seahawks - who also have 2 1st rounders - both higher than SF's I believe....
If SF wants our #2, they'd have to give more than just two picks in the teens. Maybe their 2nd or 3rd rounder as well.

Re: 2010 Draft
I'd also like to trade down from #34 to pick up some additional 2nd round picks if possible.
Tampa and Kansas City both have 2 picks in the 2nd if we wanted to trade down with them....
New England has 3 2nd rounders if they wanted to trade up....

Re: 2010 Draft
Seahawks have no need to give up another 1st to move up from 6 to 2. 49ers want to move their picks to move up. 49ers are looking at #13 and either #16 or #17 depending on the coin flip.
I'd trade down in the 2nd round as well.

We could look to trade down in each round....the more picks the better IMO. We have far too many holes to fill.

Re: 2010 Draft
I doubt a team will give up 2 first and a 2nd or 3rd for just a top 3 pick. That's insane. And yeah... maybe I would like San Fran's picks.
San Frans are back to back 14 & 15, I would do something like...
(1a) Joe Haden CB
(1b) Earl Thomas S
(2) Mike Iupati OG
This would take care of our secondary problem and wouldn't have to draft secondary the rest of the draft.
If I were Seattle's picks (9 & 18), I would prolly draft...
(1a) Bruce Campell LT or Trent Williams LT
(1b) Earl Thomas S
(2) Patrick Robinson CB
This is a hard situation lol

I don't think I'd deal #2 for 13/16.

Re: 2010 Draft
I would deal #2 for 13 and 16 probably. If Suh is off the board than absolutely. You just have to. Money is the first major reason...#2 is very expensive. two deals in the teens are much more manageable.
Second, this team has a ton, and i mean a ton, of holes. Other than QB, WR1, TE, FS and LB (wherever Levy plays), we dont have another spot that cant use either a moderate or (more likely) huge upgrade
We could grab any combo of players who could be around, like Brian Price (DT), Corey Wootton (DE), Joe Haden (CB), Taylor Mays (SS), Derick Morgan (DE), Bruce Campbell (OT) or Terrence Cody (DT), to name a few
Maybe we contine to remake our secondary and grab Haden and Mays to pair with Delmas? Or beef up the D-line with Wootton and Cody? Or both lines with Campbell and Morgan? If Haden was around he would be my pick at 13 regardless, but after that you have so many options.
I just think filling two positions instead of one would be huge. Especially adding in the early second, you could have 3 major impact players coming aboard next year.

Re: 2010 Draft
^ That's what I was thinking. If San Fran is interested in moving up (and Suh is gone) Lions could really benefit from moving down.
Joe Haden-Taylor Mays-Louis Delmas-CB would be an immediate upgrade of epic proportions.
Or we could draft an OT and DT and draft secondary in the second round.
We just need too much to not consider the idea of moving down. Besides Suh, no one is worth not filling multiple holes, IMO.
Seattles picks don't matter. They haven't shown insteret in moving up, 49ers have.

Re: 2010 Draft
I agree completely with you AJax. Wooton would be around in the late 2nd - 3rd round and I am ALLLL for getting him.
With SF's picks, I would grab Haden and Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas so solidify our Secondary.
Then trade our 34 for two of NE's 3 2nd rounders and draft Wooton and best DT available.
And then 3rd round, grab best OL available.
That would be a FANTASTIC day 1 of the draft.

If we draft haden, I don't see the need to draft Robinson. And I doubt Iutupi will be there late in the second. I see teams like Seattle or NE going after him in the late 2nd.

Re: 2010 Draft
Maybe...but it would get us an entirely new, and super young secondary:
CB - Haden
FS - Delmas
SS - Mays
CB - Robinson
The rest of the draft can be used on O-line, D-line, LBs, and I'd still like to get RB Joique Bell in the 5th or 6th round....
This would make our free agent targets DEs, DTs, and O-linemen....(DE Dumervil, OG Haas come to mind)

Re: 2010 Draft
If we get a RB, it would have to be one of the bigger name ones cuz Aaron Brown is the man. 4.9 yards per carry and 12th in the league in KR yards while splitting time doing it.

Re: 2010 Draft
I'd like to see Aaron Brown play more. But until we know the status of Mo Morris (is he back next year?), I think you have to bring in another RB.

Re: 2010 Draft
This is on ESPN INSider information. Great news!!
ESPN Insider's KC Joyner evaluated Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and writes, "It is said that this is one of the deepest defensive line drafts in NFL history and the metrics say Suh is head and shoulders above his positional competition. He should be the No. 1 pick in the draft."
But here's where the problem comes in: the St. Louis Rams pick first, and rumors have been building that they will be taking a QB with that No. 1 pick. The NFL is the "League of Quarterbacks", after all, not the "League of Defensive Tackles." In comments to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Rams GM Billy Devaney maintained an air of secrecy, saying there is currently "no ranking" of the draft pool. Allegedly.
If the Rams do take a pass on Suh, the Detriot Lions and their fans would be ecstatic, as he could instantly improve their defense, much like coach Jim Schwartz' old buddy Albert Haynesworth did for the Titans.

Re: 2010 Draft
Looking back, since 2001, the Rams have used 1st round picks on the D-line 5 times (out of 10 picks), including their last two in a row with Long and Carriker.
The jury is still out on Long and Carriker, but the other 3 were not great picks; Ryan Pickett in 2001, Damione Lewis also in 2001, and Jimmy Kennedy in 2003 - none are still with the Rams.
They already have a lot of money tied up in their D-line with Long and Carriker. Many "experts" doubt they spend even more on the D-line by picking Suh - as they are in the best position to finally get themselves a franchise QB.
We just have to hope either Bradford or Clausen show well at the combine or on their pro days...
One thing I do worry about is if the rams look at the depth at QB, they might take Suh and hope one of Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, Snead, Tebow, LeFevour or Mallett (if he somes out) fall to them in round 2 or 3....
