Cleveland is dealing DL Corey Williams to the Lions for a 6th round pick, pending him passing a physical.

He fell out of favor and also wanted to go back to playing in a 4-3. Two years ago before he got hurt he was fantastic, and he had some good time in Green Bay. I like it.

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN.com, reports the Cleveland Browns will trade DT Corey Williams to the Detroit Lions for a low draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, according to sources. Williams is scheduled to take a physical Friday, March 5, to finalize the deal.

Corey Williams means two things:
1. They see SLH as a situational player, a 1st and 2nd down run tackle.
2. The Glenn Dorsey deal is pretty much dead, because Williams assumes that spot and the Lions are still going to draft McCoy or Suh. Williams bulked up in Cleveland but he'll (hopefully) play at about 315.

You might ask why the Browns gave him up...

Cleveland tinkered with Shaun Rogers playing 3-4 DE and he was fantastic, and they discovered that Tuba Rubin can handle the nose in those situations. Williams never really fit as a 5-technique there and they have a couple of younger, cheaper options.

I think you're going to see Shaun Rogers have a monster season. He has bonded with Rob Ryan and they're designing the defensive front around him.

Not a bad move.... Glad the Lions are doing something out there.

According to Peter King at SI.com... the deal is one of Detroits 5th round picks for Corey Williams and Clevelands 7th round pick.

His last year in a 4-3 in Green Bay he led the league in sacks by a tackle. And he freaking hates the Packers. And Brett Favre.

I just heard an interview with him on Sirius.
--he has never met Schwartz or Cunningham but Al Haynesworth called him and told him Schwartz is the best coach he's ever had
--he is very happy to get back to playing in a 4-3
--Louis Delmas has already called him to welcome him. Talk about freaking leadership in that guy!
--he's a huge Shaun Rogers fan too even though the reason the Browns got rid of Williams is that Rogers took his job.

It was floated to me by a coach from another team that the Lions now appear much more open to taking an offensive tackle at #2, or willing to take less to give up the #2 pick and slide back. I need to think about that for awhile.

well Grady Jackson just got released. makes sense as we now have quite a few DTs

Interesting...what do you think we would now be looking to take to fall back. A swap of first rounders and a second? And how far back? A couple spots? 5 or more?

I like Okung a lot, and he does give us a franchise LT to protect Stafford with. But to move down we need good value too

We'll need at least the other team's 2nd rounder as well....depending on how far we move down, we might be able to squeeze out a pick in next season's draft as well.

Okung and two high 2nd rounders would be a pretty good start to the draft....especially if the rams take Suh.
