http://www.freep.com/article/20100304/S ... ouse-visitLions coach Jim Schwartz wants defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch so badly that he showed up at his house after the free-agent market opened at 12 a.m. today,
Vanden Bosch is 31, and his production has declined the past two years. Still, he has such a solid reputation he was selected to the Pro Bowl last season, and he could help establish Schwartz’s system
You can get mileage out of a 29-year-old or a 30-year-old as long as you have a very specific role in mind for him and he fits your scheme and you feel good about that, because you’re not going to have a whole lot of start-up time with him.

The deal is all but done. I've heard that from Lions people and from both Peter King and Adam Schefter.

Again, we need D-line help badly. VB along with the new contingent of DTs coming in and hopefully the emergence of Avril really boasts one of our biggest weaknesses

I don't mind signing KVB, but I really hope he's not our biggest free agent signing.

http://www.freep.com/article/20100305/S ... reach-dealThe deal is worth $26 million with $10 million in the first year.
Coach Jim Schwartz wanted Vanden Bosch so badly that he showed up at his house after the free-agent market opened at 12 a.m. today. Schwartz was Vanden Bosch’s defensive coordinator for four years with the Titans.
Vanden Bosch, 31, has seen his production dip the past two seasons – from 12 sacks in 2007 to 4 ½ in ’08 to 3 in ’09 – but he still went to the Pro Bowl last season and can help establish Schwartz’s system in Detroit

Well the Fords decided to spend money this year i guess.
Im ok with it. 4 years is probably a year or two longer than i would have liked, but he knows Schwartz, knows the system and is a veteran presence. Hopefully he can teach Suh (fingers crosses) something or two
Third down lineup
Avril-Suh-Williams-VandenBosch
much better than last year. Certainly a start

It seems like a frontloaded contract which is great IMO.
Lions brass said in the papers that they would spend this year. Everyone kept shooting it down, but it looks like they were right... they will spend to win, but won't go overboard.
Apparently, Schwartz thinks he saw things in KVBs tapes that he can fix to help bring him back to his pro-bowl form. I'd love that. Could you imagine KVB-Suh on the right side?

According to reports, KVBs contract is only $10 million gauranteed, basically the first year, which is in the uncapped year. After that, it's very open to the Lions. I'm loving this more and more.
