Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
On the latest ep of The Camp, they interviewed Jackson Acker and he said that after practices last year, the defense would come up to him and say they knew what play was coming based on the formation. yikes...
They've been saying there is a lot more pre-snap motion, like most modern offenses, but last year's offensive problem was worse than I thought.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
I love seeing an influx of recruits coming in, but man, they're all 3 stars and with the portal and new regime we just don't develop as well as we used to.
Looking at the big ten I see UCLA has 3 four stars, Iowa has 4, Oregon has 4 and a five star, Indiana has 3, Washington has 3 and a five star, Illinois has 2, MN has 2, Michigan has 4, Rutgers has 4, and won't even mention USC, OSU, and Penn State as we're nowhere close to them.
Then I look at our schedule for next year and woof. I'd be surprised if we making it to .500.

Yea this years class is certainly lagging behind Fickell's first two years. This upcoming season is going to be pretty bad given the schedule. 2026 will be really be the test imo. That'll be the 1st year where Fickell's high school recruits will be a significant part of the starting lineup and the schedule won't be as brutal. If he doesn't do much in 2026 I think it's time to move on
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

When I look at the 2025 schedule I see opportunities to **** on some seasons. A couple upsets would be very fun.

Right...we don't even know if we can develop like we used to, and IMO even if Fickell wanted to, you simply cannot do that in 2025 (why I think Wisconsin football will never be what it was), and it may be stupid to recruit/develop a large portion of your roster.

I think they have proven so far that they can't build a successful team purely through the portal. Developing High School recruits has to be apart of how they build their roster. They can't ignore the Portal either, but we have not yet seen if Fickell's high school recruits will develop, that is a pretty big unknown at this point. Coming into this year we had seen very few of his high school guys play(that's not a negative, they are all underclassmen still). That's why I want to see what he does in 2026 where atleast half, if not more, of his starters should be guys he recruited and developed.

Yeah, I agree. It's still an odd place though where I think he came in and, while I thought none of this was possible due to geographical/$ constraints, quickly changed my opinion for like 5 months...seemed like he might succeed at swinging for the fences as the hire was meant to do. Air raid, 4-star recruits, flashy transfers...
Now we're back to just being a developmental team at best...which is fine - but with the schedules we'll have, how hard it is to recruit/develop now...I'm still very in on Fickell being a good coach that has had some tough luck - but I'm also not sure I see much upside. We're probably going to sit in Iowa/Illinois/Indiana/*gulp* Minnesota territory of hoping to go 7-5 most years with a miracle 10-2 season mixed in.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
ESPN ranks all teams
54. Wisconsin Badgers
Previous future power ranking: Not ranked
Returning quarterback: No. After an odyssey of quarterbacks in 2024 didn't yield results, Wisconsin looked within the Big Ten and landed Maryland transfer Billy Edwards Jr., who started throughout last season.
Likelihood of a multiyear QB: Low. Edwards was brought in for his final college season to give Wisconsin a steady hand at quarterback under first-year coordinator Jeff Grimes. If projected backup Danny O'Neil ends up taking most of the reps, he could lead the offense through 2027.
Offensive line/defensive line outlook: Wisconsin hired Grimes in large part to regain its edge along the offensive line. Veteran center Jake Renfro is back, along with guard Joe Brunner and others, but the team lost projected left tackle Kevin Heywood to an ACL injury. The defensive front will be transfer-heavy except for senior Ben Barten, as Wisconsin added Corey Walker (Western Michigan), Charles Perkins (UT-Martin) and others.
Roster management: Fickell has made Wisconsin an active portal team, with mixed results so far. The Badgers added Edwards, a big defensive line haul, several defensive backs from lower college divisions (Matthew Traynor, Geimere Latimer) and some help in the passing game. After losing initial transfer tight end Tanner Koziol, Wisconsin picked up Missouri State's Lance Mason, an FCS standout. Wisconsin has taken more of a regional/national recruiting strategy, but there's concern the team isn't focusing enough on in-state prospects.
Star power: Cornerback Ricardo Hallman is an All-Big Ten talent with proven playmaking ability, while Joe Huber gained honorable mention all-conference recognition last fall. Wisconsin is looking for more linemen on the awards radar, though, and needs several of its transfers, ideally Edwards, to pan out this fall. Returning wide receiver Vinny Anthony II provided a spark last fall.
Coaching staff: The Grimes hire is very significant, as Fickell needed to pivot after the Air Raid never really took flight in Madison. Grimes and line coach AJ Blazek are tasked with restoring some of the power elements that defined Wisconsin's offense for decades. Fickell's staff has a mix of younger assistants -- such as Kenny Guiton -- and veterans such as defensive coordinator Mike Tressel back for a third season.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
