trade rumor for favre
On the Espn packer board someone commented on hearing on a tampa station this trade rumor
Chris Simms and a second round pick next year for Favre after he is reinstated
I would be happy with that if it turns out to be true.

He isn't going to be traded to a team we play this year. Much less a playoff team in the NFC and an old division rival. What do we need Chris Simms for anyways?

Re: trade rumor for favre
I'd do it. Tampa's WR's are below average and a 2nd rounder is as high as we could possibly hope to get for Favre. We'd still be a better team than Tampa Bay, and yes we do play them once, but that isn't that big of a deal.

I didn't read any of those articles, but Gruden is a friend of Favre on top of it. If he's traded it's going to be to Tampa. Still, I hope he isn't traded. It's not right.

I'm not saying I agree with this, but including TB holdout Chris Simms would essentialy amount to a gentleman's agreement between 2 GMs trying to rid themselves of an embarrassing public headache. We'd be taking Simms mainly as a courtesy, although we could label him as the "veteran" backup option to Brohm and risk moving Flynn to the practice squad. Simms is only signed for 1 more year, I believe. This trade would be mainly about the 2nd rounder.

The more I think about it, the better it gets, a mentally unstable QB playing for a mentally unstable coach...the implosion could be unreal. Then add an angry Jeff Garcia and his teammates who really like him and this could be even more fun.

Re: trade rumor for favre
Tampa is the most logical fit
They have a fairly good team that if Brett can still play, he'd make them better
Gruden and Favre like each other
They run the WCO
Tampa isn't a division team

And the Packers get a pick in the top 50.

Maybe, maybe not
If Favre would ok a trade to Tampa, i don't see Ted trying to drive a hard bargain. I think TT would want the Favre issue resolved sooner than later and might take less just to get it over with. I could see say a 3rd rounder with strings attached that make it a 2nd rounder depending how Tampa did under Favre.

Re: trade rumor for favre
It's taken me a bit to come to this, but we should not trade Favre.
There's more to football and sport than being the best. There's loyalty. There's pride. Yes, Brett put us between a rock and hard place, but you know what, the Packer organization needs to suck it up and bring him back. Maybe it's to late for this, but that sure is a shame.
Now the question becomes what to do with Rodgers. That i don't know the answer to yet, but Brett needs to be our starting QB this year.

Ideally you trade Favre to an AFC team we don't play. Tampa's solid enough where they're a contender in the NFC with Brett.
That said, if it's the best Green Bay could do then make the trade.

It depends on how many teams are interested. Joe Montana was traded with a 3rd rd pick to KC for their 1st (18th) and Montana was essentially out of football in 91 & 92, before being traded before the 93 season.
Favre had a MVP type season last year and if he were to commit to the new team for at least 2 years (which I know is a big question), we should be able to get a #1 pick.
I agree with some others, that it will be an AFC team or an NFC we will not see, like ATL.

I read on ESPNEWS that Tampa "isn't hot" on Favre's list according to Brett. He said he prefers cooler weather.

Re: trade rumor for favre
Wow, Favre really holds his trade value well....he was drafted as a second rounder...and nearly 20 years later someone is still willing to give a second rounder to get him....Probably because he runner up for the MVP last year, and led the youngest team in the NFL to the NFC Championship game.
But we should just tell him we don't want him, creating a mass media blitz, and create a negitive crap storm that makes the player and the franchise both look like idoits. Sounds like the right move to me. Jerry Reinsdof and Jerry Krause did this same thing in the late 90's with the Bulls.
