Q: Is it reasonable to expect Brett coming back is an option considering all the things he's said about you? He's basically called you a liar and untrustworthy.
TT: Again, I've never had a bad convesration with Brett. I don't know about the translations in the media. But this is the National Football League. This is made for grown-ups. You can't be governed by feelings. You can't be governed because someone might have hurt your feelings. We're not going to do that. We're not going to be like that. We're going to take the high road and try to make the right decisions for the Packers, and if that's the right decision for the Packers, that's what we'll do.
Alot of the posts in the other Favre threads are about who's side are you on or who is more at fault in this situation. Well with Brett likely to show up soon at Packers camp and reports that Brett isn't working with Ted to get him traded to a team outside the Vikings, Thompson very well then could end up being faced with only two, MAYBE three options because he can't trade Brett if he won't ok the trade and none of the options are attractive at all. So say you're Ted and Brett won't ok a trade to any team you're trying to trade Favre to, plus like TT said, you gotta try and take the emotional aspect out of this even after shots Brett took and this happens
1. Brett shows up at camp and the media feeding frenzy is as crazy as expected. It becomes a major distraction and McCarthy feels it's starting to effect the quality of preparation and practices. I heard on the news today that Charles Woodson after practice today was yelling bring back Brett, but it's not known if he was just being sarcastic. Let's say though that privately, with Brett now in camp, some of the vets side with Favre and there is at least some division among the ranks over which QB should start. Favre also looks unhappy in camp with his role and number of snaps given. The hordes of media is throwing a barrage of questions each day after practice to all the players and coaches with one question after another about which QB looks better, how is Rodgers/Favre is handling it, and little else is being asked. All involved quickly tire very badly of all things Favre and Rodgers. McCarthy clearly starts showing frustration with his camp being dominated by this saga.
2. We enter say day 5-6-7 of camp Favre/training camp. Brett isn't happy and has dug in his heels, if you want me gone so you can have a normal training camp, then release me, i'm not going to ok a trade.
So here you sit. Training camp is being affected and the players/coaches are beyond tired of the drama and answering the questions. You badly want some normality back to camp so this young team can prepare properly for the upcoming season. Brohm needs all the snaps the can get in case Favre is eventually gone. What do you do?
A. Dig in yourself and refuse to give Brett his way by releasing him, even if you can't trade him, camp is being affected, players are clearly frustrated by the media circus/drama, and you fear the continuing circus could potentially damage your season?
B. Say enough is enough, i can't let this drag on any longer and potentially sabotage the season, begrudgingly cut Brett?
C. Favre won't ok a trade anywhere, but possibly does to Minnesota. The problem though is the Vikings can see what's going on and can tell through channels that Favre won't ok a trade anywhere else, there goes a chunk of leverage. They know that if you're actually willing to call your biggest rival to trade Favre, you have to be completely out of other options and want Brett gone badly. They offer say a third rounder, tell you basically take it or keep Brett and enjoy your side show training camp?
I ask this because more and more this looks very well like the options Ted could be soon facing because no team will bother making a serious trade offer without Brett's ok. If reports are true, Brett isn't helping with trades. Taking all of the who's fault it is for why the team is where it now is with Favre, your call has to be entirely about what's best for the team. What's your call given none are remotely appealing?
