Vikings Contacted

Link.

First reaction = Oh. My. God.

An executive in personnel for a National Football League team with close ties to clubs in the NFC North Division told the Journal Sentinel that the Packers called the Vikings on Friday informing them that Favre was available.

Also, something I said last week popped up in the article:

At midweek, several NFL personnel people theorized that if Favre were traded the compensation to the Packers would be in the range of second- and fifth-round draft choices.

The source scoffed at that suggestion, indicating that the Vikings might consider parting with a fourth- or fifth-round choice but nothing more. He said no NFL team had any reason to offer Green Bay more than that because of the possibility the Packers might release him a week before the opener.

If Favre's dealt, it won't be for much.

Why?

I sure seems Brett won't ok a trade to a team like the Jets or Bucs, that pretty much to me leaves the Vikings. If the Packers end up deciding at some point before the season starts that having Favre on the roster isn't what they want or worth the distractions, the only options then look to be either releasing him or trading him to the Vikes given that Ted can't trade Brett anywhere without his ok because he just will refuse to report.

Barring something unforeseen i can't envision right now, the odds look high that Brett ends up being our starting QB or he ends up a Viking either via release or trade. I guess it's remotely possible he'd accept being Rodgers backup if Aaron won the job fair and square, but remotely possible even is probably way to high of odds for that taking place.

I heard something similar late on Friday, only that a deal was in place, and it was just a second, but a 5th would have been added if specific acheivments would have been reached.

The vikings were sitting on the deal, and it was the reason that I posted that Brett would be a Viking tomorrow, on Friday....But that was from someone in Minny, the same connection that got my front row seats for Bretts Record throwing TD game last year that you all helped me figure out a slogan to put on a Sign.
