Where I didn't like the Harrell pick was the torn bicep. We learned from the Joe Johnson debacle that if you tear your bicep, it really can be impossible to come back and be an effective interior lineman. That should have been the red flag for TT. I don't think Harrell was a top 5 talent that merely fell because of the injury.
My issues with the pick at the time was we had depth at DT, the injuries problem in college, and he was good in college, but not a special college DT.
With that said, even though i wasn't fond of the choice, i just hoped he'd pan out because it's never a bad thing to have extra talent on an important area like defensive line. Besides Harrell getting fat on moms cooking vs staying in GB during the offseason to get in better shape, what else bugs me is i think his selection played a sizable role in TT not extending Corey Williams before last season started, when we could have got him locked up for much cheaper than he eventually got.
I understand there is a group of guys here who don't agree with me and others on Williams value to the Packers defense, that's fine, people disagree all the time. Williams did though clearly lead the defensive tackles in snaps last year, obviously the coaches found him very important and i think the defense will miss him this year. To bad Ted didn't lock him up when a golden opportunity was there, we certainly had plenty of cap space to do it back then and we now wouldn't have so many worries about the important DT position. I sure hope Pickett/Jolly stay healthy.
