Cullen Jenkins headed to IR & Other Injury News

:banghead:

This teams best DL so far into the season done for the season. This really sucks and I hope he gets well fast. The injury didn't look that serious at first, so I'm surprised.

Probably will be more KGB time.

Hawk may still play Sunday. Reports that he has a torn groin are untrue although he does have a strain. McCarthy said they will know more on Wednesday when he tries to practice.

Injury report: Despite a FoxSports.com report that he might have torn a groin muscle, linebacker A.J. Hawk has not been ruled out of action this week.

Hawk was surprised to hear about the report and hasn't given any indication to anyone that the injury was that serious. However, he was still being examined on Monday and the timeline for his return is unknown.

"It's a pretty good strain," McCarthy said. "Wednesday is important. Knowing A.J., I'm sure he'll do everything he can to play this week."

Hawk rebounded from a chest injury suffered in the first exhibition game in time to start in the opener against Minnesota and keep his streak of consecutive starts going. He did not miss a game at Ohio State and has started 36 straight games for the Packers.

Others who suffered injuries were: tackle Chad Clifton (hamstring), end Jason Hunter (hamstring), cornerback Will Blackmon (thigh) and safety Aaron Rouse (knee). Clifton and Blackmon weren't injured seriously, Hunter will be evaluated as the week goes on and Rouse was having tests on his knee.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm curious to hear what Hawk's status is. MM, as of yesterday, did not hear back the results of his eval.

Major major blow

We are now down to one pass rusher in Kampman on the defensive line if KGB keeps looking like the knee problem has slowed him down. Not only does it hurt us at DE, Jenkins when he slides to DT was the only DT who could get pressure inside.

Now is when it would help a bit to have a more creative guy running the defense

Packers are in deep crap. I have never seen this many injuries (nagging or serious) on one side of the ball for us 4 games in. I mean, it's getting ridiculous.

Jenkins is a big blow. Can you start KGB full-time? I don't think so.

I figured this was going to happen when I saw Jenkins grab his pec. Now they have to throw Montgomery out there more who just happens to play football like a girl. :nonono:

absolutely devestating....Jenkins has been the best DL on this team and by far the most consistent pass rusher. I am sure you are sick of me saying this but now we will truly see how inept Bob Sanders is as a D-coordinator. I realize you can't switch to a full blown 3-4 defense in midstream but right now the strength of this team is at the LB position and you MUST be able to find way to create pressure and get your best players on the field as much as possible and we all know that Sanders has not shown any creativity to this point......this team is in deep trouble.

Favre on the Madden cover with a Packers jersey cursed the Packers.

I think Sanders could run a 3-4 with...

Kampman
Pickett
Jolly

...as the 3 and...

Pop
Barnett
Bishop
Hawk

...on running/short yardage downs or...

Pop
Barnett
Hawk
Chillar

...in passing/long yardage situations as the 4.

I also anticipate Jeremy Thompson to be thrown to the fire. This is how TTBoy works. Now he has all the excuses that he needs.

Perhaps trading him cursed the Packers...

Damn. It is not looking good. IMO 3-4 must begin to be phased in. With Falcons and then bye week we have 2 weeks to get basics and then maybe have a functional D by mid season. It's crazy and will cause some terrible break downs while learning but we won't be any worse than we are staying with our current 4-3 and at least gives hope for improvement. Certainly opponents won't have any tape to study until later which by then hopefully we have gotten it down.

TT brings in Kenny Pettway and Patrick Chukwurah for workouts. Pettway signed according to his agent.

There is no way we switch to a 3-4 because of this.

I was all for a switch to the 3-4 a couple years ago, but it's impossible to make the transition in the middle of the season.

Pettway isnt actally half bad for a last ditch option.

Granted he did just go thru a life threating scenario....
