Its not over

Post#1 » by bucks59 » Mon Dec 1, 2008 5:03 am

The Packers can still make the playoffs.

The Vikings still have to play: @ Detroit, @ Arizona, Atlanta, Giants. It seems unlikely that they would win two out of their final three games, especially if the Giants try like they did last year during the final game. Additionally, the Detroit game could be a trap game given that they just beat the Bears and then have the Cardinals coming up. But Detroit also just sucks. In any event, they probably finish 9-7.

The Bears still have to play: Jags, Saints, GB, @ Houston. They should win the Houston game and probably the Jags game and split the other two, putting them at 9-7.

The Packers play: Houston, @ Jags, @ Chicago, Detroit. Besides the Bears game, those are all winnable games for the Packers. It is not out of the realm of possibilities that the Packers can win out and go 9-7 this season.

Then it just comes down to the tie breakers. I am not sure how it works, and I am too tired to look it up; but if the Packers beat the Bears, I would assume the Packers would have all of the tie breakers, head to head and division recored.

This division is so bad, the Packers still have a legit shot at the playoffs.

It's over. The chances of us going 4-0 and the Vikings going 2-2 are very slim.

We hold the tiebreakers on both teams should we win out. But it won't matter.

Vikings may go 2-2, but I can't see the Packers going 4-0 they way the defense and special teams are playing. Should beat Houston, @ Jags is no gimme, @ Chicago will be tough, and the Lions will probably end our season with their first win.

Were pretty much out. Unless Viking lose 3 and Bears lose the next 2 of 3 games and we win the rest. We barely make it in at 8-8 with tie breaker to win the north. Could happen. But I wouldn't count on it.

It's officially over. Time to go check out the 2009 draft thread. We are going to get a top 10 pick for a team that is better than the bottom 10 of the NFL.

Time to go into full tank mode and get the highest pick we can. In my mind next year is make or break for Thompson. This will be the third year out of four since he took over without the playoffs.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Was last year the only one over .500?

Yeah, its over now. I guess if the Vikings lose out, the Bears lose two, including one to the Packers, and the Packers win out, they could still make the playoffs. That, however, does not seem very likely. Losing to the Texans at home is just embarrassing.

They wont go into tank mode though. They will try to win these next three games, and it would be tough to lose them since two out of the three teams are terrible. At best, or worst depending on your perspective, they finish 7-9. Though I guess they might lose to the Jags on the road if they can lose to the Texans at home.

Yup and 10-6 the last year Sherman was GM. Ted inherited a 10 team win and no cap space and now we have a 5 (maybe 6) win team with cap space.

I've been a Ted backer and still agree with the QB decision, but the rest of the team is on him. I thought he cleaned up Sherman's mess well, but this year was a step back for the team. At the very least this should've been a team contending for the division. Been very disappointing.

I wouldn't rush to blame Thompson.
He has built a good team and I know you are ultimately judged on winning. But there is so much parity in the nfl, every year playoff teams take a step back (jags, pats, packers, chargers etc) the fact is they were competetive against TB Tenn, Minn, Car, and Hou, and it just didn't go our way.

We always folded in the 4th quarter and if anything that falls on McCarthy. Thompson has assembled a good cast and it's up to them to win the close ones, and up to McCarthy to make the best out of the team he has.

I'm also not ruling out Minn and Chi losing out and us still making the playoffs. If that's not the case, the Packers will be back atop the division next year because the fact is that Thompson has proven himself a good drafter.

And I really don't get all this tank mode stuff. I will never root for the Packers to lose i don't care about losing 6 spots or something in draft position. Come on are you really saying you would be happier if we lose out than if we win out? That's not a true fan's sentiment I don't think
