Our running game was garbage. Tolzien was good with a couple of very bad throws. We won't be .500 in the Big Ten this year.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think we could be. The only sure loss that I see in the Big Ten schedule is at Ohio State.

Other games are:

vs Michigan State
@ Minnesota
vs Iowa
vs Purdue
@ Indiana
vs Michigan
@ Northwestern

Iowa's ranked, but they almost lost to Northern Iowa at home today and we get them at home.

So, just got back from the game, was front row, 50 yard line behind the NIU bench. Nice seats? Yeah, I'd say so.

Part of my job at NIU is to record football practices for the coaches to use, and for the past month I saw a God awful secondary for NIU. That showed up tonight. I was going to give my preview but a thread hadn't been made yet here when I left. I told my dad that if the Badgers had any semblance of a passing attack they'd win this game handily. For the most part, they did. On that first play by the Badgers on that wide open touchdown either a safety or a corner completely missed the setup. It looked like the corner thought they were in Cover-2 so a safety would pick up the receiver. That clearly wasn't going to happen.

Both teams couldn't run the ball to save their lives, and for some reason, neither team stopped trying. I was impressed at NIU's tackling ability, didn't really miss any tackles.

As far as the run made by NIU in the 4th, I have no idea what that "forward progress so no fumble" call was or still means, so thanks for that officials, who I think were MAC officials. But the Badgers just seemed to stop caring from my perspective and tried to run the clock out when they couldn't run the ball at all. Tolzien made a hideous throw for the interception and the onside kick was a great one by Salerno. It was just too little offensively too late for the Huskies.

So those are my jumbled thoughts, I by no means expected a Huskie victory, but they sure made things interesting, and that was a lot of fun.

Well, at least NIU didn't get embarrassed this time like they did a couple years ago at Camp Randall.

NIU might have a fighting shot at beating Purdue in a few weeks.

Certainly wouldn't rule them out. They won't be beating anyone if they can't stop the pass at all, though.

Two posts so far in this thread and WEFFPIM hasn't denied being a cheerleader for NIU. Must be true. :D

Not to make excuses for the mishaps that he Badgers did end up committing, but the bottom line is that the game doesn't end up anywhere near that close if that call is made correctly. The call was that the play was called dead before the fumble and subsequent recovery, and as a result it was not reviewable given that you can't review after play has been called dead. Bottom-line is that a horrible call was made, as the play was NOT dead, and it took away a change of posession that ended up making a big difference in the game.

OB, and the Badgers, got robbed on that call. But again, I'm not trying to make excuses for, as an example, Tolzien's second interception which was, from my seat, a bad read and bad throw. I did come away pretty impressed with his potential and ability as a passer, though. I think what he needs to work on most is his decision making, and it appeared to me that he might have held onto the ball too long a couple times. But given that this was his first start, I'm going to cut him a little slack and hopefully chalk it up as being jitters. I hope to see from him what we saw for most of the first three quarters, because that guy I thought generally looked good. He certainly has the receiving core to help him out. Anderson and Toon, IMO, will make for a great duo this year. It's nice to hear "TOOOOOOOOOOON" on a regular basis this season. I expect that to continue.

I should say that I have not re-watched the game yet, and that these first impressions are from being at the game, where I sometimes don't notice things.

Oh, and as for my final thought of the night:

Mike Taylor +1. He looked beyond solid in his debut.

When's Cal Poly getting a rematch? Maybe they'll just leave the kicker if a rematch ever transpires..

Wofford won't know what hits them in a few weeks. :)

Bielema is still questionable. Throw on 1st and 10 when you need to run 8 mins off? ...lol

If you're gonna throw at least play action.

Agree on Tolzien MIG. He got happy feet a few times that made him make some bad throws and he made a terrible throw/read on the second INT, but otherwise he looked pretty good. We'll see how he does when he gets into the Big Ten schedule.

I didn't know I was being questioned as a Huskie cheerleader. Well, I am not. This is me:

Oh, and MIG, if you look at my post, I'm not denying that was a bad call, it was, it was a hideous call, not to mention the pass interference in the endzone that followed. NIU got huge breaks down the stretch, they took advantage of a few of them. The game should have been over there, it wasn't. It's Wisconsin's job to get over that and finish the game off. They did eventually, but they sure didn't look like they wanted to.

WEF, I didn't mean it like that. It was obvious you didn't agree with the call, and it was more like a continuation of your point and an attempt at explaining the call, I just didn't include the whole "I agree" part. Probably should have.
