9/7 Injury Update: Raji, Jennings and Others

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Mon Sep 7, 2009 6:24 pm

* DL B.J. Raji (ankle), RB Brandon Jackson (ankle) and CB Will Blackmon (quad contusion) were out;

* WR Greg Jennings (concussion) S Aaron Rouse (hamstring), QB Matt Flynn (shoulder) and CB Brandon Underwood (stinger) practiced. Rouse had been out since he was carted off the practice field on Aug. 20;

* Flynn made several strong throws for the first time since the Buffalo Bills game on Aug. 22. How effective he was, that's for coach Mike McCarthy to determine.

* S Derrick Martin was on the field wearing No. 29. He's definitely only 5-foot-10. But he is thickly built, like GM Ted Thompson said.

* Also, from earlier over on Twitter, LB Danny Lansanah signed by Miami to its practice squad. Packers had reason to believe the Dolphins were going to sign Lansanah onto the active roster off of Green Bay's practice squad last year. That led to the Packers promoting Lansanah to the active roster and the release of special teams standout Tracy White.

* Flynn will practice all week.
* Raji and Blackmon are also making progress. "We'll have an injury update on Wednesday."
* Nick Barnett will definitely play in the game. What packages, "we'll find out Sunday night." Thought he looked good but need to be careful on how much they use him. Played 25 snaps last week. Have to be smart.
* "I think Nick Barnett will definitely run out of the tunnel and play like the Nick Barnett of old."
* Definitely a scenario when all three fullbacks could be active.
* Best first day back practice since McCarthy's been here.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Everything about the Anthony smith move screams Jon Ryan to me. It just makes no sense. Good to hhear Rouse is back though given the depth at safety.

Yeah, I was really surprised about Smith. I like what I hear about Martin though and I've always liked Rouse, so I don't have a problem with the moves, just surprised. Smith did have his limitations, probably runs about as well as Jon Ryan. Martin can play CB and S and at the cost of just Tony Moll he was a steal if he is just an ok backup, ST guy, Dime guy. If he is ever a starter then he was an absolute steal.

I also would of liked to see Smith stay I liked it when we brought him in. But seems to me that the guys most of them at least should be ready to play by Sunday night.

We'll know more tomorrow when the injury report comes out. Of course teams like to play games with these reports, keep the other team guessing.

I hear you for the most part, but if Smith runs about as well as Jon Ryan, then Bigby runs about as well as Kapinos.

Raji is out....

Packers first-round pick B.J. Raji (ankle) is out for Sunday night's game.

Tuesday tests on Raji's ankle didn't show anything positive and he isn't cleared to practice. Raji was not pushing Ryan Pickett to start at nose tackle, so the loss isn't major. He is still slated for a big role by midseason

I say the loss is significant. With Harrell out we don't have a lot of depth up front in the middle. It's not like Pickett can play the whole game. And you never know what kind of effort you'll get from Jolly, although being in a contract year helps.

That concerns me.

Matt Forte could have a HUGE second half against us when Jenkins starts to wear down.

Yeah, I don't like it either.... Hopefully this isn't nagging. Guys like Jolly are really gonna need to step their game up.

Has Matthews improved? I know even if he were cleared he wouldn't start over Pop but I just haven't heard anything from him.

Do you mean Pickett?

I don't really see Jenks as the type to wear down, and even if he needs some snaps off Montgomery looked surprisingly stout against the run and Wynn could play in the nickel packages.

Raji did return to practice so there is hope. He was favoring the ankle.
