I just can't get over the fact that Bush and Rouse are the options at safety. No GM will have every position on the roster covered with high quality backups, but Bush and Rouse? Come on.

What about Rouse am i missing that the team has to like enough to keep him on the roster for a third season? There has to be something. Are they just praying that one day Rouse will magically find instincts, learn proper tackling angles, play physical, and/or stop getting lost in coverage? I understand it's possible that Rouse develops into a decent backup, but is that limited ceiling worth keeping him around as the primary backup at safety?

At least in the case of Bush it could be argued that he really was only the 5th safety on the roster and more a special teams player, it's just a bit of bad luck that both Bigby/Collins got hurt before Martin had the defense down. That said, he's a major liability whenever he has to play on defense and for all his special teams acclaim, the guy seems to be pretty penalty prone on special teams over his time here unless my dislike of him is making me imagine more penalties on him than actually happened.

I think we would have been okay with Rouse and Collins, but both Rouse and Bush is pretty brutal.

I don't get it with Rouse either. Bush at least offers value on special teams (Sunday's performance not withstanding) and you count on him never playing regular downs (ie Tracy White), but Rouse offers nothing. He's incredibly slow to react and all I saw him do in pass coverage on Sunday was stare into the backfield and slowly back peddle.

This morning I actually did some research on the '10 draft. Right now I don't want read about the NFL, hear about the Packers or the league or discuss the Packers at all.

Ugh.

Luckily, next year's draft is loaded with players who would look great at various spots along our front 7.

Yea, I've been pimping this class since March. I love the DTs, OTs and 4-3 DEs.

That said I hope like hell we're not in position to grab one of the top guys.

2 games in we're talking about next years draft already. you guys are nuts. I think we'll eveutually be ok. We can still lay claim to 10 wins with this team

I'm not giving up on this season by any means. Last game sucked but I generally agree with you that many are WAY overreacting. I was just pointing out how strong I think next year's draft is.
