Lang Officially Backup at LT

Post#1 » by Ill-yasova » Sat Oct 17, 2009 3:22 am

Lang has been declared the replacement for Clifton in event of an injury. Coming into the regular season I had two official "man crushes" from this last draft. Quinn Johnson who we will see play for the first time this weekend at the Lions. And TJ Lang who despite performing well in every situation he was put in to this past training camp was immediately eliminated from the RT discusion at the beginning of camp. Here are some quotes from the GBPG

It begs the question: Did coach Mike McCarthy and his offensive staff err in not letting Lang compete with Barbre and Giacomini for the starting right tackle job?

“That’s hypothetical,” offensive line coach James Campen said. “That’s not fair to pin that on the kid or quite frankly to a coach to answer that, because that’s not fair.”

Likewise, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin wouldn’t speculate on what might have happened if they had let Lang compete.

“Oh, I don’t know, I really haven’t thought about that,” Philbin said. “He’s a good athlete. He’s doing some good things. He represented (well) when he went into the game the other night, but I don’t know, I don’t really think about that.”

This is just another example of the Packer's coaches coming into camp with preconcieved notions of where a player should be in the depth chart without officailly giving them a chance to prove themself (Bishop, Chillar).

Thank god. I'm tired of the mix and match game.

Agreed. Shifting the whole line when Clifton goes out is a recipe for disaster. All the talk about continuity on the offensive line has been just that: talk.
