Did TT & MM Believe the Packers would compete this year?
I feel that TT and MM didn't believe that the Packers would compete this year (and would have been fine with being also-ran's again this year). I believe that they think that next year was going to be the first year that we would seriously contend, so they almost feel like contending this year is like playing with the casino's money.
I also believe they've sold Murphy and all of the others in charge on this vision, so they really have no chance of losing their jobs. Perhaps I am being unrealistic, but I almost think that the people in charge of this team feel that this team is undisciplined because they are young and not due to McCarthy's coaching, which deserves at least some of the blame from my POV.
I don't think they even considered that we'd make they playoffs.
Did TT and MM believe the Pack would compete this year? For the Playoffs? For a Championship?

You stated that you believe they think we would be also-rans, but you didn't say why other than the fact that they're young (something they were when they made it to the NFC Championship). Is there any other reason?

Most of the inexperience is at the back end of our roster. If you look at our starters and key subs at the beginning of the year we had plenty of experience.

We were the youngest team in the league when we went 13-3 two years ago so that argument doesn't fly. I see no reason why either of them expected a bad year. We went 6-10 last year with several close losses. Our QB and our other young guys had a years more experience. We had two defensive first round picks and a new well respected D coordinator.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

They believed we'd do just fine this year. In fact at least one of their jobs depended on it.

Plus, this is the NFL not MLB. Most NFL teams go into the season hoping for a playoff berth unless unless they know their team is really bad and in serious rebuilding mode like say the Lions, Rams, and Bucs are.

Either you guys are over-thinking it or I didn't ask my question right, but I want to know if you think that TT and MM thought they'd be better or worse than they are right now?

I think Ted Thompson has a lot of faith in this team.

The team was 13-3, beating several teams by double digits, then 6-10 while losing the most close games in NFL history, and still outscoring their opponents for the season. They brought back almost all starters from those two teams and drafted two defensive first rounders. Yes, I would say they expected to win this year.
The best part is that the future is extremely bright given the youth of our best players overall.

Even though I have no reason to believe TT and MM didn't expect to win this year, what's the point of this question?

You don't think it is important to discuss whether this team's coach and GM thought they'd be a legitimate contender this year? I guess we disagree then.
Part of me believes that both of them didn't expect to be in this position, this early AF (after-Favre). Don't you think if this team was on the cusp of contention Thompson ending, that would make the additions to put us over the top...
I know people will so 'no,' Thompson will never add FA, I disagree, I think his plan is incredibly smart, basically it is what the Brewers had done 2 years ago and what the Bucks have never been willing to do.
I was against them getting rid of Favre when they did, after the NFC Championship Game, but I believe it proved to be the right choice. This team wasn't ready.
The Brewers could never make the run until the had the foundation in place to do so. They kept waiting to accumulate the right amount of prospects and growing them and finally (after a lot of bad decisions) it happend.
The Bucks are trying to rebuild while also trying to win. Last nights game was a perfect example, Redd and Bell were playing over BJ. Little to no Luc at the end. That is the future, those are the guys that should be playing.
When TT let go of Favre, he surely knew there would be a few seasons of struggle, no one knew ARod would be this good, there were a number of things that had to happen to put us in this position, and now I feel like you guys are acting like all those things were a foregone conclusion.
Point being, I don't think that TT and MM expected to contend seriously this year. I think they planned on playing their young guys and giving them every opportunity to showcase themselves for next year and beyond. I mean the carried 3 FBs.
Once they seemed to be doing alright, they signed Green and Tauscher, I believe that is when TT got serious about this season. Those are small investments that will have little residual effect beyond this year, so again, they didn't mortgage the franchise to make a run, but at some point, I believe when TT feels we are ready, he will make the moves to put us into position.
And my overall point is, since he hasn't done that, he doesn't think we are there just yet.
