Thats what favre does. He builds you up in a frenzy and then it all comes crashing down in a split second. I will say it was eerie/hilarious to see how it unfolded last night and not be on the losing end of it. Anybody else feel that way? It was a surreal feeling.

I'd just like to thank Drugbust for coining BrINT, I've been using it with my friends ever since last night and it has caught on like wild fire. Best nick name ever.

Did I? I'm not sure I can take credit for this one (unless I said it after a bar some night...?).

It is good though.

I want Favre back next year, just not sure I want Capers back. The blueprint has been set by the Saints on how to defend these old QB's, you beat the hell out of them. Capers decided to play passive and allow these old guys to do whatever they want, not hits on anyone at all.....I do not believe the Saints are any more talented than the Packers on defense.

Let's not overreact over one playoff game where our defense played really bad. Our numbers for the entire season were very good and there is no reason to try to get rid of Capers, I want him back because another year with the 3-4 and the same coach will only help things.

He's right though, Capers barely pressured Favre when we played them.

That's true, and it makes me wonder how much Capers trusts our personnel, because there has to be a reason he was most reluctant to blitz and open up the playbook against the best QB's we played (Favre, Roethlisberger, Warner).

If I had to guess, I'd say that our linebackers are the source of that mistrust. Hawk and Barnett especially aren't dynamic players. Where Matthews is a serious threat as a pass rusher and can cover well also, Hawk and Barnett aren't very good at pressuring the QB and while I'm hopeful for Brad Jones in the future, he's still very inconsistent and has some weaknesses. In fact, the only time Hawk or Barnett really ever got home was when Capers stunted them together in the middle, which when you do that, you're hoping one goes un-blocked. Arizona picked that up beautifully and Hawk and Barnett didn't get off the blocks. Given that the major advantage of the 3-4 is that the offense doesn't know where the 3rd (in a 2 down lineman alignment) and 4th rushers are coming from, it's difficult to take advantage of that advantage when two of those players are pretty much one dimensional.

Luckily, this draft seems stacked with guys that can play in this system and get after the quarterback. Most drafts are full of guys who play with their hand in the dirt and have trouble adjusting to playing standing up in space. This draft is different. Guys like Jerry Hughes, Ricky Sapp, and Sergio Kindle all have experience playing standing up and all have looked comfortable doing so. I would also love Eric Norwood as an inside backer.

There are also a couple of good options for down lineman who have the right kind of size and ability to get to the quarterback. I like Wootton from Northwestern a lot. Penn State's Odrick is a pretty good prospect, too. Dunlap's reputation for being lazy scares the crap out of me but he's a physical freak. Calais Campbell entered the NFL with a similar reputation and he's turned out well. Purdue's Mike Neal is pretty solid also.

Agree and disagree

I wasn't nearly as excited about the idea of Brett signing with the Vikings this past offseason for the very reason of what ended up happening and don't want to see a repeat of it. Be careful what you wish for sometimes. If Favre hadn't signed with them, i think we'd have won the division and thus at the very least our first playoff game would have been at home. Given there were no other special teams in the NFC, Brett signing with the Queens could have potentially cost us a Super Bowl berth. Just as i wasn't as ready to simply assume he'd be terrible this year, i won't assume he'd be bad if he came back next year. I want to win the division next year far more than i want to see Farve screw up again and Favre makes the Vikings a bigger division threat than if he stays retired.

As for Capers, i agree fully. I was very unhappy with how passive Capers went each time he faced a quality QB except for Romo. The guy blitzed a measly 4 percent of passes against Warner and played mostly prevent in both games against Favre. You don't have to blitz nearly every snap like Williams did, but Capers plan to be even more cautious than Bob Sanders whenever he faced a very quality QB was a massive failure each time.
