Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
LT remains top priority. Any other Olineman is 2ndary IMO.
Clifton / PICK = 2nd round or even 3rd.
Spitz / College
Wells / Spitz
Sitton / Smith
Tauscher / Lang
This would be good this year and future with eventual upgrades at LG & C.

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
I would be willing to bet anyone that Lang is a MUCH better player this year than Tauscher is.

Hopefully so. Both together makes us strongest. Either could get hurt. Lang would benefit from one year of consistency at 1 position learning the tricks of the trade from the wiley vet.
Barbre is puke. Giacomini has done zero so far.

I agree. You had him at G.
So where is the rule that if he starts at guard this year he can never play RT?

none of course but musical chairs on OL has been a problem. Why keep it up?
Sitton & Wells were our best last year. spitz should be solid at LG.
Only way Lang should be at G this year is if injuries hit interior.

I agree
Watching the way Tauscher moved last year, it was amazing that he could block anyone.

So this confirms(if Brandt is right) that Clifton just wanted to up the Pack's bid.

The real question from the experience is whether the deal Clifton signed with his preferred team, the Packers – three years, $19.5 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed – is better deal than the deal he had on the table when he took the trip to Washington. My sense is that it is, but not by a lot (the Redskins are clearly doing business differently this year; more on that in another post).

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
This is from my buddy who knows Clifton well and talks to him on a regular basis (was in Tauscher's wedding and went to HS with him, met Clifton through him). I sometimes get some good Packer info from him:
Here’s the low down…Clifton is super happy to be back, and took less to stay in GB.
He considers his contract a one year deal so his main priority was to max the guaranteed money. He figures with the lockout coming he’ll likely be cut after this year, if no lockout he could POSSIBLY play one more after this. He knows they are going to draft the “tackle of the future” and actually was excited at the possibility of having someone under his wings to work with for a year before he’s done. He was under the impression they were going to trade Campbell in round 1. Not sure if that’s his guess or if he has insider info?
Green Bay’s initial offer was $3 mil guarantied and they wouldn’t budge, so he went to Washington and they offered him $8 mil guarantied on the spot. They took it back to GB who came up to the $7.5 Mil. His agent then went back to Washington and got them up to $10 mil guarantied. He said the offense in Washington is much more tackle friendly, Shannahan is great to play for but he the facilities out there are no better than a large high school. He wanted to stay in Geebs so he said screw it and took the $7.5.
There’s the short version for you…

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
Sounds to me like Clifton was looking out for himself, can't say I blame the guy, $3 million guarantied is low. Assuming all of that is true glad to have him back and I think he did well by himself on the business end of things.

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
Yeah, $3M is insulting. I think I'd rather pay more for one year than less per year for longer with a guy his age though, so I'm fine with this deal from the Packers end of things.
Regarding Campbell, he fits a TT draft pick to a tee. Athlete that has had some consistency issues, but if he figures it out an amazing LT prospect.

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
Yeah, I wonder how much of that is speculation on Clifton's part or his agent and how much is actual discussion between TT and Clifton.
I like the deal both from the Packer's side and Clifton's and both parties seem happy about it so seems like a big win-win.
Today marks exactly 45 days until the draft, I normally like and follow the draft but it has been a while since I've been this hyped for it due to how close we are as a team now.

Re: Chad Clifton resigns w/Packers
I don't imagine Clifton will play all three years of the deal, but hopefully, what Luke said is true, he is excited to help the future LT learn the tricks of the trade. Clifton has been solid his whole career...

That sounds good on Clifton's part, unlike another former player who said he wasn't there to mentor his replacement.
