ORLANDO, Fla. -- The NFL has become such a dynamic digital commodity that owners are spending part of this week discussing how to maintain the distinction of actually buying a ticket and attending games.
That’s why teams are looking more aggressively at Kangaroo devices, a hand-held television that offers up to 14 games and The NFL Network’s Red Zone channel for fans in the stands. And speaking to reporters Tuesday, Green Bay president/CEO Mark Murphy said the Packers are investigating the possibility of displaying real-time highlights and fantasy-level statistics on their video board during games at Lambeau Field.
“By a couple different measures, we’ve been judged to have -- if not the best -- one of the best game-day experiences in the league,” Murphy said. “So we don’t want to take away or cheapen that in any way. But technology is evolving so quickly that there’s some things we can do now that I think would really enhance the experience.”
Eventually, that initiative could result in replacing the current video boards with high definition screens along with a new sound system. Murphy said that project is “more of a long-term” issue, but it will be done eventually.
Now, if we can only figure out how to get one of these into the stands, we’ll really be talking.

Re: Interesting possibilities for Lambeau
the scoreboards/video boards at Lambeau are awful. That's the biggest thing I would change, otherwise watching a game at Lambeau is great. I certainly wouldn't want the Kangaroo thing, no thanks.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I don't care about the Kangaroo thing, but I know the NFL as a whole was discussing the possibilities to keep going to games attractive vs the product they offer on TV. I am interested in them possibly putting the NFL Red Zone channel on the scoreboard, at least for other teams in the division. Not during the game but during time outs and such showing recent scoring highlights and scores as actual video would be pretty nice.

I'd love more highlights and stats from other games. But they'll have to balance that with showing ads during timeouts, which is what they do now. They won't want to cut that revenue.

If they did it right they could have the highlights sponsored by an advertiser and maybe they get a banner at the bottom or top of the highlight or in a corner or whatever. Those type of ads sell for more money afaik as well because they are up and visible during the highlight that people will actually pay attention to whereas an ad by itself people can just ignore.
That is how I would go about it anyways, either get a second smaller advertising banner LCD next to the highlight screen or get a non standard size screen, or figure out a way to put a banner above, below, to the side, in a corner or whatever. Advertising during and next to the highlight to maximize both fan experience and advertising revenue.

Re: Interesting possibilities for Lambeau
A little OT: My biggest complaint about attending a Bucks game is that die hard fans paying for a product gets less information than a viewer at home. I hate how they don't show anything mildly controversial. If Bogut gets pushed, I want to see what caused it. I would like to know more stats instead of looking in the corner for 5 minutes waiting for them to show up. /end rant
I like the display but not that handsets. Although, it prob would be something you paid for as a rental at the game so 75% of fans won't have them.

Baseball is even worse. They can't show any play that's remotely close as a replay. None. Escobar makes a great stab up the middle, fires from his knees and nips the runner at first? Can't see it on the board because it was a close play. I HATE THAT.

I agree, what would be nice to see is for the NFL to lead the way here. Goodell realizes that with all the NFL Red Zone channel, NFL Sunday Ticket, etc... that the product at home is in some cases better than the product at the stadium. For some fans there is still nothing better than being at the game, but they realize that they need to make the product at the stadium better as a whole.
I would guess if the NFL can put in new displays to show highlights of other games, in game stats/fantasy stats, replays, etc... fans would love it. I would hope this would be enough to push the other sports to at least look in to and consider the idea and get the ball rolling in the right direction. It has to start somewhere and after what I've heard from Goodell out of the owner meetings it seems like the NFL is going to lead the way in this sort of thing.

Re: Interesting possibilities for Lambeau
Has the scoreboard changed at all in the past few years? If memory serves me correctly, I thought the only stats Lambeau showed was Rush/Pass/Total yards for each team. The last game I went to was Giants/Packers NFC title game, quite forgetful.
In Miami, Sun Life(formerly Dolphins, Landshark) Stadium has all the scores on a flashing scoreboard that's between the 1st and 2nd levels of the stadium. They show highlights of other games during timeouts and last year they started offering a device that shows stats, scores and highlights of all games if you're seated in club level. I haven't used the device yet, but it sure seems like it would be pretty sweet to catch all of my fantasy players/scores while i'm watching the game.

The scoreboard hasn't changed and that is the sort of stuff they are talking about and discussing about possibly adding to Lambeau down the line.
