Green Bay — The pretrial hearing in the felony drug possession case of Green Bay Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly was reset again Monday, this time for March 25.
The delay, like a previous postponement Feb. 18, was requested by Jolly's attorney, who is mounting a defense against felony charges that Jolly possessed more than 200 grams of codeine during a traffic stop July 8, 2008, in Houston.
Charges against Jolly were dropped temporarily when prosecutors decided they would wait for a new piece of equipment to arrive that would help their case. Charges were refiled, and the two sides have been preparing for trial.
At the pretrial hearing, a trial date probably will be set.
Jolly's agent, Brian Overstreet, told the Journal Sentinel on March 2 that Jolly maintains he is innocent and intends to prove it.
"We're not after a plea agreement, we're after 'not guilty,' " Overstreet said. "We're still confident about that. We just feel very strongly about it and I'll leave it at that."
The Packers are awaiting conclusion of the case unsure of the status of their up-and-coming defensive lineman. They showed relative confidence in him last week when they offered him an upgraded restricted free agent offer.
They could have offered him a one-year deal for as low as $1.176 million, which would have set compensation should he leave to the round in which he was drafted. Jolly was a sixth-round pick in 2006.
The Packers skipped over the second-round tender level and made a first-round offer worth $2.521 million. Jolly made $559,560 last year.
If Jolly is found guilty, he will face suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
Time to move on: In a news conference held Monday in Jacksonville, Fla., Aaron Kampman said the Packers made an effort to retain him, but his desire to play defensive end and not linebacker made the decision for him.
"They did, but I think for me the better fit was down here," Kampman said after signing a free agent contract with the Jaguars. "I think that the direction of that organization maybe didn't include me as much as it had in the past. So I think it was the right time for me to make this transition."
When asked about having to play in the Packers' new 3-4 defense after seven years with his hand down in a 4-3, Kampman made it clear it was not an easy transition. He said playing linebacker took away from the work he needed to keep his pass rushing prowess.
"I'll just say this: I like to go forward," Kampman said. "There are a lot of nuances at outside linebacker. I'm a guy who likes to work on his craft and hone it down to the minutest detail. I was doing seven-on-seven in practice rather than (pass-rushing) one-on-ones.
"Normally when I break down film I look at offensive tackles and I study them to the T, but (at outside linebacker) I had to break down receivers and running backs. It was a more difficult transition in that sense, and then just being out there in a two-point rather than a three-point stance; different launch angles and how you rush, where you load from, these type of things. So I'm excited to put my hand back on the ground; very excited. I have a fire burning to do that."

Jolly's Case Postponed AGAIN
It's his own lawyer who keeps delaying, I'm not sure what for. He SAYS he doesn't want a plea deal. We need to get this settled so we can figure out how much to offer him. If he takes a plea deal he will likely get some kind of suspension. It would be good to know one way or the other.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Jolly's Case Postponed AGAIN
They're probably postponing because they want Jolly to get a deal done, and maybe because they're waiting for the Kevin Williams/Pat Williams case to go through to see if they have grounds for appeal for any suspension. If they don't, they might just pursue a plea.

I don't see the Packers giving Jolly any kind of long term deal before this is sorted out if that's what you were implying.
