OT: Glen Coffee retires at the age of 23

Post#1 » by Aaron It Out » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:48 pm

From Wiretap:
CSN Bay Area - Glen Coffee was not present for practice on Thursday for the 49ers and he didn’t show up at practice again this morning.

Coffee has decided to retire from the NFL, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

The 49ers selected Coffee in the third round from Alabama just a year ago. Coffee was expected to be the primary backup to starter Frank Gore this season.

I wonder why he did this. No explanation or anything so far. He had some promise as a runningback and I kinda liked him. Plus who doesn't like coffee?

He talked to a reporter this morning. His reason was that when he was in college he found Christ and that Christ had a different direction for him to go and it was something he had struggled with for some time and the only reason he had continued was because he felt it was expected of him. He plans on going back to Alabama and finishing his degree(6 hours short) and then getting a Masters degree.

I know it seems crazy to give up a chance in the NFL.

But, if he is gonna be happy then he made the right choice.

Well Ricky Williams retired because he found weed...

But in all seriousness, I was a bit worried when I just heard the story that it may be depression or something... glad it isn't...
