I don't like Spitz at OG, so it would come down to Lang, McDonald, or a pick. That is a lot of inexperience.

No way I'd pay Colledge. He'll get more than he's worth elsewhere.

Perhaps. My main point is I'd rather bring him back if he's cheap because he's a decent starter. As much as I like the potential of our young guys, I don't want the Packers to let Colledge walk on a cheap deal then have LG become a huge problem because no one steps up. None of those guys have any experience.

I trust the front office and coaches since they see all these guys practice. I think Lang is much more suited to guard than tackle anyway, so I would pick him to win the spot right now if I had to guess. Still, I won't be surprised if Colledge is brought back.

Fair enough. I just think the opportunity cost is too great to pay him what he'll want. There are too many more important, better players we will need to pay soon and the thought of losing a good player because we opted to pay Colledge makes me a little bit sick.

I understand why people would be worried about Colledge leaving after being hyped on guys like Barbre and then watching that blow up terribly. But in my mind he is just way to inconsistent to give a multi-year extension to, I'd much rather just draft a guy like John Moffit in the 3rd round then get in a bidding war for Colledge.

Our problem on the O line is that our left side is not that strong in terms of run blocking. Clifton is having a better year as a run blocker but he's still a much better pass blocker and Colledge is just so inconsistent that I'd love to get someone who is a strong run blocker in there at LG. Obviously that is much easier said then done, but I'd explore trying to find someone who can help us go that route.

I don't see many elite tackle prospects in this draft, but I have hope that Lang and/or Newhouse will pan out. The coaching staff has said that Newhouse has the longest reach of any of our linemen and he's a natural in pass protection. A lot of scouts remarked that he had/has kind of an awkward body type and was carrying a little bit of extra weight in the midsection. I think with a year of NFL training and coaching he might become a player, at least on the right side. I also think Lang's skill set is best suited inside.

I'm sort of curious about where Carimi will go. He did well against the Big 10s elite. He dominated Heyward and Kerrigan, and performed very well against Claiborne. That said he didn't look good early in the year.

On McDonald

Of course Coaches were high on Barbre & Breno too. But I didn't like either from start. McDonald I do.

On Lang

Lang has already shown he can play IMO.

So if Clifton comes back & Newhouse develops as I think, we'll have plenty of options to replace College & still have depth - Lang, McD, Spitz.

Return to Green Bay Packers
