Jolly Still Under Contract With Pack

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Sat Dec 25, 2010 5:16 am

A little blurb from McGinn:

Defensive end Johnny Jolly's contract has been tolled during his suspension, according to an NFL source.

Thus, if Jolly is reinstated after the Super Bowl, he would remain Green Bay's property under terms of the one-year, $2.521 million tender that he signed June 15.

I have no idea what he's been up to since his suspension. If he's cleaned up his act and is resinstated I say you absolutely bring him back for $2.5 million. He'll be motivated and maybe have another great year as he did in 2009. Then you can decide whether he's worth the risk of a long term deal. But I'd love to have him in 2011.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Good news. I totally agree with bringing him back.

Add Jolly and a healthy Neal to Raji, Jenkins (if he's resigned), Pickett, maybe bring back Green, you've got a very good line.

Given how well CJ Wilson has played, Jolly possibly coming back, and Neal definitely coming back, plus how stacked this draft is for 3-4 DE prospects, I kind of doubt Cullen Jenkins gets re-signed.

It would be colossal fail to let Jenkins walk. I expect they tag him. Need proven pass rushers and he is one plus he's a great locker room guy. They paid Pickett.

I think Pickett was a different situation. I want Jenkins back, and I'm positive the Packers do too, but I could easily see it not happening. He has more of an injury history than Pickett and he's at an age in which I could easily see some other team swooping in offering him an extra year that the Packers aren't willing to give him.

Pickett was 30 when resigned, Cullen will be 30. Injury was hand = not a problem. Number of years = no big deal in NFL. Bonus $!

I actually am friends with Jolly on facebook. He has a ton of dumb pics of tricked out cars but he also has a ton of pics of him working out and praising the Pack. He talks about how he misses Green Bay and cheers for us every week. I think he truly cares and wants to come back. I see him say stuff like "go Pack, beat the Bears" or whoever we are playing every week.

As you can see with Vick, a desperate player who knows he can't screw up anymore is a valuable commodity.

Jenkins FIRST injury this year was hand. Now it's been his calf. Tomorrow will be the 4th game he missed. In 2008 he missed 12 games. I think they will want to do what they did with Pickett. Tag him and sign him to a 3 year deal. No longer.

However, if they wanted to extend Jenkins it would have made a whole lot more sense to do it this year, then they could have had a chunk of it used up this season when there was no cap.

True that. However they also want to see how deals are affected by new CBA and if that saves $ or limits cap more.
