Possible Lambeau Expansion

Packers surveying fans on possible Lambeau expansion
By Don Walker of the Journal Sentinel

The Green Bay Packers are currently surveying fans about possible expansion options in the south end zone of Lambeau Field.

Last September, an economic impact study indicated that adding as many as 10,000 seats at Lambeau Field could generate new revenue, new development and new jobs. And about a year ago, the team conducted focus groups asking fans about various seating options.

The new survey includes various indoor and outdoor seating concepts which the team says "would be unlike any other concepts currently being offered at other NFL facilities."

The plans, none of which are set in stone, include a variety of outdoor seating ranging from traditional seating to higher-end premium seating. Many of the seats would be under cover. "The unique design pushes the front row of every seating level forward to be as close as possible to the action, creating what has been referred to as the "Wall of Fans."

Not sure how I would feel about that.

Probably wouldn't want to watch a game from those seats.

I'm all for it. You have to do everything you can to maximize revenue. I'm really curious what their plans are for all the land they've been buying up around Lambeau. I've heard talks of a hotel but I don't think a hotel can be profitable. There's a reason there are only a couple of dumpy hotels close to Lambeau, I doubt a new hotel could generate enough revenue other than on game weekends. Maybe. Tundra Lodge is a couple miles and has an indoor water park, I think they do ok. The Raddison is connected to the casino so it does ok. Restaurants and/or bars? Maybe. But it's not like Curley's Pub is always packed. Maybe they just plan to lease the 28 acres out to other businesses and make money that way. Other than game weekends and during training camp there isn't much that goes on there.

I think I might head up to Lambeau tomorrow, the Hall of Fame opened a new area this week featuring last years Super Bowl run and the new trophy is on display finally.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Seats that high up/that far away exist in basically 31 other stadiums in the NFL.

The fact that everyone is squeezed together in bleachers allows them to have over 70k in there without an upper deck.

It may be slightly farther back, and I'd agree that maybe I'd rather watch on TV than sit in the nosebleeds...but I guess somebody would want to sit in those. Plus, it would probably move me up the season ticket list.

Agreed. Those seats are still better than thousands of seats in other stadiums.

Maximizes revenue and makes Lambeau a louder environment. I'm all for it.

12 hours is worth it. Make it a weekend, leave Friday morning, spend Friday/Saturday night there, go to Sunday game and return. Although most hotels in the area usually are booked the same day the schedule comes out. Or you could just drive to Milwaukee and spend a night or two there, no problem getting a room and a 2 hour drive to Lambeau.

Also, you could go to a game in sept/oct and stay at the brown county fair grounds. its about 2 miles from the stadium, and they have campsites open year round with electricity and water. also have bathrooms that are open until it freezes. ive stayed there the last three years for the Dallas games, and its been awesome.

Hmm I'll definitely have to think about it. I'm gonna need some buddies who are willing to go and I'm assuming I can't jus show up and get tickets to a game.

There are scalpers of course so yes you would get tickets but you never know the availability and price. If I was doing a road trip I'd get tix ahead of time, one less thing to deal with.

I was at Lambeau today and in the HOF, they have the new Super Bowl exhibit open, it's a pretty big room, not a whole lot in it. The newest trophy of course, it just got back from Tiffany's (engraving). The Halas trophy, Rodgers helmet he wore during the game, some other things. I'll like it better when the trophy is added with the other 3 in the actual HOF room. But for those of you who have never been to the HOF, do it. It's the largest HOF of any team in any sport. It's been a few years since I was in there and loved it again. I also did the Lambeau tour for the first time. It would be nice to go in the locker room (you can't) but you do get to go through the tunnel and out on the field level (not on the field itself). Very cool tour, I love Lambeau.
